Weaning off chantix/Halfing the dosage?

Hi Aloha, I too was a Chantix user and one of my doctors had wanted me to use it for 6 months. I quit taking it after 6 weeks. I was comfortable in my quit and was certain I would be ok without it. I started forgetting to take the pill at night, so around April 21st I stopped taking the night pill. I did that for a week and didn't notice any difference. Then I started taking just a 1/2 pill in the morning and did that for 4 days, then just a 1/2 pill every other day for 4 days and then I quit all together. I have been completely off Chantix for a few weeks now and up until last night, didn't notice any difference. I have had little or no cravings. My doctor didn't see any reason to wean, but I thought it was better to do it that way than to just quit. I still think that since Chantix is so new it is better to be cautious. What really helped me was reading the book The Easy Way to Quit Smoking by Allen Carr. I heard about the book from people here and although I was well into my quit, it was a tremendous help to me. The physical part is over and it is now the mental addiction and something we will have to live with the rest of our lives. I do trust that it will get better and easier. Just my thoughts! First Night Out

Thank you Mercy for reminding me how great it is to be a non-smoker. I have been to several social gatherings and I just love that I don't have to leave the room or the party. I get to stay for all of the action and it really is a great feeling knowing I won't miss anything by having to leave for a smoke. It made me laugh to read about how your friends lit up right after getting out of the car. I remember that feeling, always thinking about when I will be able to have my next cigarette. I don't miss that at all! Thanks for reinforcing what I already know, but needed to hear - it's great to be a non-smoker! ?1328.25 missing......

You have made an excellent point Phil. In reading many of the posts here, I noticed several people wondered where the money they saved by not smoking went. I started to watch my own meter and thought I needed to make sure I did something fun with the money I saved, so I opened a savings account. It was very easy since I could do it on line and just transfer money from one account to another. So I make it a point to put anywhere from $10. to $25. into MY account weekly. I have $75.00 in my account, so I'm doing pretty good. Now, let's just hope I can truly use that money on something special instead of one of my many monthly bills! If I was a gamblin woman I would hit our local Casino! 5 days younger

I am so glad Paul asked that question. It runs through my mind several times everyday. I didn't think I could do without a cig for a day, let alone 6 days. I think about smoking all the time, I too would like just one puff, I think I could handle it. Then I tell myself that it would taste horrible and I wouldn't get that nicotine buzz, so it's not worth it and I move on to something else. It is hard, but so worth it. I am headed to watch tennis in Miami today and I think how nice it will be to not have to separate myself from my 3 friends to go find a tree away from everyone to smoke. I think how nice it will be to not get out of the car after the drive and smoke 3 cigarettes to make up the ones I missed on the drive down. I hope I can continue to talk myself out of it! Not one puff ever. Reading the posts here have made such a difference, thanks to all and hang in there everyone. Alohakeia I see we are still walking side by side - congratulations! Off to enjoy the day without a cigarette!!
