Working through the program would be an excellent start to dealing with these anxious thoughts.  The following is a list of questions from the program that may help you to think about when you are expereincing an anxious thought:
 
10 Questions that Help Fight Anxious Thoughts
1.   Is it "true"?
2.   How do I know it’s true?
3.   Is the anxious thought 100% true? (Something less than 100% true is not true)
4.   What's the evidence for it being true?
5.   What's the evidence against it being true?
6.   Has it ever happened before?
7.   What's different now?
8.   How bad would it really be?
9.   What's the worst thing that could happen?
10. If the worst thing happened, how bad would it really be?

NICE MESSAGE RBABE IT REALLY HELPED ME REALIZE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLYONE THAT FEARS THINGS I AM AROUND LIKE THAT GIRL THAT COMMITED SUICIDE, I HAD A GIRL AT MY SCHOOL DIE OF CANCER AND EVER SINCE I FEAR THAT (AND ABOUT 200 OTHER THINGS)I JUST CANT COPE WITH IT IF SOMEONE DIES AND I KNOW ABOUT  IT I INSTANTLY FEAR THAT I HAVE THE SAME THING THEY DIED FROM LIKE MICHEAL JACKSON WHEN HE DIED WROM CARDIAC ARREST I NOW CONSTANTLY FEAR IT.
 
HAVE YOU GOTTEN OVER YOUR FEARS OR THOUGHTS LIKE THAT WELL IF SO CAN YOU MESSAGE ME BACK AND GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THESE THOUGHTS.

Hello all, I am new to this and haven't quit undergone any sessions yet. I started having panic disorder when i was 15 after my grandparents death. Luckily, my entire family has suffered from anxiety and depression so when i had my first one, and i thought i was dying...my mom was quick to know exactly what was really happening. Anyways i'm going through a rough relapse where the anxious thoughts are on my mind atleast half the day. I have been on Paxil Cr for around five years now, and it has almost always helped and for the past four years the only time i experienced anxiety was after, stupidly, drinking the night before. However, I wanted to know if anyone has ever experienced this -> I went to high school with a girl who had commited suicide. Right after that happened, i had horrible immense fear about suicide. It's so strange to think about because i am normally happy, i love my life, im a very religious person & i could and would never commite suicide..however it seems like since that happened way back when, when i have these relapses where i go through a month of horrible anxiety i focus primarily on the thought that "im going crazy, or im psycho.." and it leads to "what if i commit suicide because i go crazy" ohh it kind of is hard to even type that because it's such an irrational fear, even to me.. yet i feel hopeless as if i can't control it. I've never thought about doing it, or anything like that.. it's just this constant on my mind "what if". It's obviously a scary thing to have a fear about or on your mind. So basically im just looking for some reassuring that somewhere out there other people have had this thought or feeling. Also are there any other people out there who have been on medicine, and then just felt like it stopped working for a month at a time? please help!!! i could use all the help i can get right now!!! Thank you!

Good point, Jamie!  I think that a lot of anxiety has to do with just this, the self defeating thoughts that keep you from becoming something better, something greater.  Something I've been refusing (the ninjas) for some time now, and things have slowly gotten better.  Actually, it's only slow at first, the more you begin to pick up on these ninjas, the faster your mind recovers.  And should history ever rear its ugly head and try to repeat this anxiety, you know how to defeat it.

Yeah, I used to struggle hourly with that nasty ninja! I found that just challenging it over and over again like I did with any other thought really helped! It helped me see that this absolute statement was absolutely not true!

How about transforming some of those thoughts into positive affirmations? They may seem difficult to believe completely initially but the power of the statements can influence your outlook on life and help you to work towards a more meaningful and productive purpose.
 
As you said, a lot of people believe the negative thougts and then subsequently have various symptoms such as anxiety and depression.
 
When a negative thought enters your mind, turn it into something positive immediately - write it down if you have to and repeat it several times until it starts to feel real. This takes practice.

i totally agree with this, i have these thoughts daily and it does feel true and i do believe it even tho deep down you no its not true. i think the hardest thing to do is to combat these thoughts.how can we feel different?what should we do when we get these thoughts?

Hello everyone,
 
I just felt like writing something about what seems to be a very common negative thought amongst people with anxiety issues. I know it is one of the main culprits in my anxiety thought pattern.
It hides at the back of my thoughts a bit like a ninja- recently i have been calling it out whenever i hear it and putting a spotlight on it does seem to help. The thought has a couple of main forms for me:
 
I will probably be like this forever
This wont end (or) I will be lucky if it doesnt get worse
My old life is gone for good
 
These are incredibly powerful statements, as they basically amount to saying that everything you enjoyed about life is now gone forever. They also imply that life is now going to be unbearable forever (even though this is extremely unlikely). The fact that a lot of people (like myself) have truly believed these statements makes me feel like, no wonder we get the symptoms we do! Any average person who found themselves truly believing this statement, even for a moment, would feel very anxious, down and unmotivated. The fact is that this thought gets reinforced many times daily for some of us, and ends up being something we have accepted about our situation.
 
I urge you to call this thought out whenever you find it- it flies in the face of all the published research and good common sense. I know many friends who have recovered from anxiety and i know none that have lived unbearable lives forever. I can only begin to imagine the impact that thoughts such as this one have on our conciousness, as we are being bombarded by such a massively negative statement. It is about the worst thought that one could have about one's situation. Above all, its completely false and is about the least likely thing to happen. Dont let this ninja get away with stealing your hope- it is something you deserve, put it in your safest place.
