Peteg is on the CRUISE SHIP - 50 days smoke free!!!

Good job! 50 is great!

Sorry about the dentist today.
On the upside.. your mouth will heal so much faster and heal better than when you were a smoker. And you didn't have to listen to him giving you a lecture about quitting smoking. :)  yes?

Congratulations and enjoy the cruise!

And The Day is Today for many!

I'm so happy to see you here today. You are doing great... you past the halfway mark of the first three days.
That's about as long as it takes for the nicotine to exit the body. After the first three days it's more of a mind thing.
So hang tough! You are almost there do whatever it takes, just don't smoke!

You are not alone in the crying department. Me too.  During one quit, I wanted to smoke so bad that I started crying just seeing someone smoking. How pathetic is that!  Just expect for the waterworks to be in overdrive for awhile.. it takes some time for the emotions to mellow out.

What Bob said....  a nice busy evening does make it easier.
ER,I forgot!  Ok, so that should keep you mind off of things :) for awhile. The ER writers have been doing such a good job tying up loose ends. Wasn't that fun to see George Clooney back there? You will like being able to watch a whole TV show without running outside for a smoke and then running back worried I missed something.  My trick was to pause the program just enough so I could skip through commercials (those commercials were a trigger to go smoke). Or the other trick is to just get up and go the fridge.
Be nice to yourself... be sure to give yourself rewards for all the progress you have made!  Ice cream, bubble bath, fancy coffee.. you have already saved some money so spend it on yourself!

You can do this.. you are doing great!

HP

costly poisoning

Ron,
That is an excellent point!

Yes, the US is woefully behind in helping people quit. They are making it clear we should quit but how? When I was hopping around looking for a site / program to latch onto last year.. there were a few sites but nothing of this quality and I don't think any had moderators.  They should consider using some of that tax money to provide free or reduced cost NRTs too. Anything.

Rock.. that made me laugh! Yes,  it's great people are finding the SSC.  I think we saw more new members this week than at New Year?

Boy Its Hard Getting Past Cravings

I found that gnawing through the sofa leg was helpful.

Everybody here gave you some great pointers!
Karen basically laid out the 5 commandments of quitting smoking.  Start there and then do whatever it takes!

That iced water suggestion is one that helped a whole lot of us! It does help flush it all out.

Be sure to do the program (upper left on this page) and make your plans to succeed!
There is soooooo much great info in past posts.. we all know what you are going through so hand in there buddy and post whenever you like!

DAY 3 Insanity

You can give yourself a big pat on the back! Be proud of your progress... you are in the toughest part.

No way I could have gone cold turkey. I was a "warm chicken" and used patches. Lots of people here have used nrts with great success.
Doens't matter the method.. it's the quit that counts.
Everyone is an individual and better to find what works for them.
It's great that you care enough about your quit to keep it going by anyway possible. Yea!

Check out the thread that Cold Turkey just started with all of his great tips.. very helpful info there.
Don't forget to work through the program up in the left corner "my program". It's like having a road map :)

Welcome! We are really happy to have you here!
