I can hardly believe I'm actually doing this!

Hi there! After about 25 years of smoking (partly in the closet)I'm on my 7th day without a cigarette! Thank goodness for Chantix. I've never made it this far before. I think about smoking a lot. It was a big (gross) part of my life. I'm doing good although I feel a little shaky, I am napping a lot and I'm eating like a pig! I've been on Chantix for 6 weeks. It took me 5 weeks to get the courage up to actually set a quit day. The dreams don't bother me too much except for a couple of bad ones. My biggest problem with Chantix is gross gas! Last night I went bowling with friends and as soon as I walked in I could smell the smoke from the bar leaking into the bowling alley. The hardest part for me is in the evening when I'm relaxing. I'm looking forward to being healthier, living longer, making my kids proud, looking and smelling better, saving money, not being embarased about smoking, and not having to worry about where and when I can smoke. Thanks for reading my story. Good luck to all! I can hardly believe I'm actually doing this!

Thanks everyone, for all of the encouragement. Today is my 8th smoke free day and I will be tested. I'm going to visit my mom who is a smoker. I doubt she will smoke in front of me, but I'm sure her house will smell like smoke. Today is my husbands quit day. He is on Chantix too. I am a little worried about him. I hope he can make it through hell week. New to the site

Hi Lori! I am also a 42 year old newbie on Chantix. I have been smoking for about 25 years, and I'm on my 8th day of being smoke free! If I can do it, so can you! The first two days were the hardest for me, but it gets a lot easier. Keep your eye on the prize! I can hardly believe I'm actually doing this!

Hello again! It's getting better. When I went to visit my mom, she had forgotten that I quit, and she lit up right in front of me. I started to feel a tension headache come on immediately. She put it out and I went outside for a few minutes. My husband had trouble today. He went to work at the construction sight and ended up bumming a smoke from someone. He didn't tell me how many he had. Keeping my eye on the prize! Smoking Dreams again

I had a dream a couple of nights ago that I was with friends and one of them gave me a cigarette. I lit it, was smoking it, then I looked down and saw it and kind of freaked me out. I felt like I ruined my quit and I would have to start all over. I'm on Chantix and I've had some really strange dreams. They usually don't bother me too much. Except the smoking one, one where a snake attacked me, and one where there was a bad car accident. I usually wake myself up when it gets like that. lazy/sleeping too much

Hi there. I've read that a lot of people on Chantix are having trouble sleeping. I am having the opposite problem. It seems like all I want to do is eat, be on the computer, read and sleep. I nap during the day and sleep all night. I get the kids off to school and to their after school activities OK. I'm making the best dinners ever (yum), but I am not motivated at all to clean the house, do book work, or take care of other things that I should. Is this just me being really lazy? lazy/sleeping too much

Hey. thanks you guys! You are right. Quitting is much more important than worrying about eating and being lazy for now. I'm going to enjoy eating and getting extra sleep. I do think I'm taking naps so to avoid thinking about smoking. Next week I will start going to the gym with my best friend and soon ski season will start. I plan to kick butt on the mountain this winter! Look - double digits!! Frustrated!

Hi ex-mg and iwillnotfail! I am an ex-mg too. Two weeks now! You guys are SO SMART to make this choice in your 20's, I wish I had. I always had to worry about when and where I could have a smoke when I went on field trips or sporting events with my kids. I never wanted their friends or teachers or coaches to see me smoke. How stupid I was to let smoking control my life so much. My kids are so proud that I quit, and so I'm I. If I can do it after 25 years, you guys can do it too! Frustrated!

iwillnotfail- Hi there! For me day 2 was the hardest, day 3 was almost as bad, but then it got WAY easier! The voices I hear now are just suggesting a smoke, not demanding one, and they are pretty easy to ignore. I'm half way to one month of being smoke free! I use deep breathing quite a bit to fight urges. Hang tough!
