Just Quit Today!

Hi, I'm Craig and I've quit smoking today. I'm well prepared to maintain the quit this time. I've quite countless times in the past but became to complacent and went back to smoking. That's not going to happen this time. I know I'll always be an addict and can never take another puff. I've decided to go cold turkey because that's what's worked for me in the past. I had just as many cravings and they lasted just as long when I went the NRT route. I tried Zyban before and I will not subject myself or ESPECIALLY the people around me to that again. It made me psychopathic! I was easily and unreasonably angered and did not care about other people or their feelings at all. The only thing that kept me from hitting people was fear of the law - a very scary thing in retrospect. By doing this program with all of your support, and my own preparations, I'm confident I can stay quit this time. Just Quit Today!
I just QUIT two weeks ago tomorrow night. Are you using NRT, chantix, cold turkey? Just wondering...
Cold turkey. NRT never helped my cravings so, it's probably more of a psychological addiction for me. I had a horrible experience with Zyban so, I'm afraid to try Chantix. Once I get over the 3 day hump and all nicotine is out of my system, it'll keep getting easier. One physical withdrawal symptom I welcome is the ability to sleep more restfully. I wake up feeling rested, clean, and energized! Nicotine gives me insomnia. The more I couldn't sleep, the more I'd smoke - vicious cycle. I have slain Puff the deceptive dragon. Craig

Preparing to quit

Hi Wheeley! Congrats on your decision to quit! I can't take Zyban either but many people here use Chantix. If you do go cold turkey, be prepared for the nicodemon. He'll try to tell you that you have it harder than your husband and will try to make an excuse for you to smoke. Don't listen to him. Once you get past those first three days and your body is nicotine free, it'll start adjusting to functioning without nicotine and it will get easier. I'm not trying to be all doom and gloom. I just want you to be prepared. My ex-girlfriend and I quit together once and while she was at the beginning of Zyban therapy, she told me one day that she'd only had for cigarettes. Nicodemon was telling me how unfair it was making me want to have a cigarette. Then, I went on Zyban. Big mistake! It really messed with my brain - so much so that I don't know how it can also be used as an anti-depressant. When you have cravings, just remember that they typically last three minutes whether you smoke or not. They might become more intense as the nicotine leaves your body up to the third day and then will become less intense and less frequent thereafter. I wish you two the best! Keep coming here and you'll do fine.
