Bump and Grind (day two)

Thank you. I have no intention of smoking today or any other day; however, I am having a bad day and want to complain. lol. I have been told in certain circles that I don't complain enough and although it's not something I intend on doing often it does feel nice to $itch a little. Thanks Nonic and Rusty for the words. -Joe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/9/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 37 Amount Saved: $10 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 52 Seconds: 10

Bump and Grind (day two)

Hi all, Day two is here and I would love to say that I feel great but I am still recovering from Strep Throat at the same time so I'm afraid I can't. Doing a lot of dry coughing and it's getting on my nerves. I was hoping that quitting would improve things but it's taking the Strep cough and Quit cough and adding them together. Oh well, that's not gonna stop me. Day two and still alive baby. -Joe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/9/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 34 Amount Saved: $10 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 38 Seconds: 32

writer quitting smoking

Hi Piojito, I am a songwriter (Good thoughts, bad spelling. lol.). I share a lot of your thoughts about smoking and I believe I have finally figured it out. We program ourselves to believe that we have that competitive edge due to smoking because you will experience a lot in 10 years and you will associate smoking with all the positive outcomes. That's human nature. The last time I quit for 50 days and went right back to it. Why??? My voice got a lot better, I started feeling more in touch with my songs...So why throw it all away??? Good question. I personally started again because I was addicted. Not to nicotine, I have quit multiple times for 30 days or more. I am addicted to the habit. Driving in my car was not the same. Nor was breaktime at work. An addiction will make you think whatever you need to think to light that next cigarette. Your writing will improve and so will your health. Joe, P.S - Hope this helps a little.

Day one down - Still alive

Hi all, Thank you for the words. Rachel, that's awesome. An hour into your quit and you took the time to encourage me. Thank you very much. I know your nervous but it gets better. I know this because I have been quitting on and off for about 2 years now. My problem is breaking the mental habit but it will come with time. Good luck Rachel, I'm sure you will be fine. Ter724, I am not on IM but that sounds like a good plan...Especially at 3AM when I'm trying to keep my mind on something else. I'm watching some old James Bond movies. Tutti, Thanks for the words. I'm not a big water fan; however, I am a consistant coke drinker so hopefully that will have the same affect. Thank you all for the words. This is truly what helps people during the first stages of a quit. Last one.....

Hi Rachel, Congratulations on quitting. I am a cold turkey person too so I can't offer a lot about the patch. I tried it before and it made me nautious and gave me nightmares. My God I'm probably scaring you, sorry. Anyways, I am glad you are here and look forward to keeping in touch. I started trying the IM too so if your ever on drop me a note. Good luck and stay strong...... - Joe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/9/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 26 Amount Saved: $10 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 2 Mins: 47 Seconds: 40

Caught in the crossroads

Hi all, This is going to be a disappointing post but I at least try to be honest about things. I caved. I smoked today and I know it was a bad decision. When I came to this site back in early November I had been a pack a day smoker for 9 years. I quit for 2 months starting in November/ 2006 and when I started again I was smoking a pack a week instead of a pack a day. I realize that this is a failing defeat for starting again but in some way I felt that I had accomplished something. You see I have quit many times and every time I would quit I would go right back to smoking a pack a day. Because of this site I could not let myself go back to a pack a day because I felt that it would all be for nothing so from January until early March I have been smoking a pack a week. Then 4 days ago I decided to try again and went back to it today. I know this is bad but I feel that these failures are part of something bigger. For most smokers the act of quitting feels impossible and most smoke consistantly until it finally kills them. For me, although it is not the best move I feel that if I can accomplish a pack or less a week and do it consistantly I have achieved something. I know you will not agree but I had to say it. I will continue to try and quit; however, at this time my desire to smoke is greater than my desire to quit. I further realize that some of you would have harsh words to say and that is your perogitive; however, it will not change my mind nor my outlook as I have never been the type of person that pays any attention to the (kick in the a$$) approach. I welcome any words of encouragment and explaination of what's going on in my head. I feel that I am caught in the crossroads and sooner or later I will not have the option to decide (i.e. Cancer, etc). I have and will continue to attempt to quit this awful addiction and feel that my trying and failing is part of some unlearning process to break the pack a day tradition. I would also like to say thank you to each and every one of you. I wouldn't have even thought about it at all without your words of encouragement. Thank you. Joe,

Zyban Question

Hi all, I have a quick question. I started taking Zyban about four days ago and had set my quit date for July 1st; however, I decided last night to crush the rest of my cigarettes and haven't smoked since. My question is that when my doctor perscribed it he really seemed to be stressing that I smoke until I had taken the pills for 10 - 14 days and I'm wondering if there are any consequences besides the correct amount being in my bloodstream. Thanks. - Jojo My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 1 Mins: 2 Seconds: 2
