Cigs and alcohol, same or different?

It has been my experience that all people are different. I come from a long, long line of addicts. I have seen them all from one extreme to another. I don't think that there is one person in my family that is not or has not struggled with a major addiction. My mom has been struggling with a drug addiction for several years (20+ years). She needs the support and the constant reminders to stay sober that meetings and 12 stepping provides. My dad on the other hand, hates the idea of going to a meeting and refuses to do so. He went to prison for a drug related offense in 1989, got out in 1996. He has been sober since 1989. No meetings, no 12 stepping. It wasn't his first trip to prison either, so it's not like that was the wake up call or anything. Each person is different! It is crazy to think that what works for one will work for all!! Some of the people I have talked to about quitting smoking looked at me like I was crazy when I said I had physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms. They were able to quit without incident. I have never had a problem with alcohol, I can take it or leave it. That does not mean that the addiction is any less severe for someone else. It would be naive of me to think that way. Why does it seem like it's getting harder?

My cravings are more intense now than they were during the first week! Is that normal? How long is this going to last? Since I started smoking 13 years ago, I have smoked a pack or more a day. Honestly, I miss it. I don't want to miss it but I do. Why does it seem like it's getting harder?

Pokerbrat, I can not even think of having a beer without wanting to smoke! I have managed to drink coffee, somehow. I think the worst trigger is stress. I know that smoking won't make it any better. I used to do alot of my thinking out on the back porch smoking a smoke. I would send my 4 year old son inside because I was smoking and my fiance has asthma so he would stay inside. It was a chance to get some peace and quiet! I guess I will have to find something new to do... Why does it seem like it's getting harder?

Lamplighter, Thanks again for your words of wisdom! This is the second time you have helped me through a difficult time. I know it will get better and I have been optimistic overall. Some days are harder than others. I never thought I would make it this far, that's for sure. Why does it seem like it's getting harder?

Thanks to all of you for the advice and kind words. I ran around the park with my son tonight, that helped alot! MrLucky, My anxiety was awful! It lasted for two full, long weeks. I was in misery and pain for two full weeks. I will tell you this much, that does pass! I could not sleep or function. I went to the doctor and everything. I was so hooked on smoking, totally dependent on it. I feel so much better now!
