Non or EX

Mercy, I read on one of the posts that ex-smoker was a good term because it made us continue to be aware that we could return to our old habits at any time. The term non-smoker may make us think we have this licked and don't need to be on our guard. I don't think terms really matter, if someone asks me if I smoke I can just say "no". I'd be curious to hear what some of the long term quitters have to say. More NO's than you know!

Well put Mercy!! I hope that we can all realize that life hands us many positives and negatives whether we smoke or not! Thanks for putting this into terms we can all relate to. Day 2

Kayla, Hang in there! It might be helpful to put yourself in places that you would not have smoked even when you were a smoker (the library, the mall, walking in your neighborhood, etc.). I joined a gym and have visited almost everyday- no one smokes on a treadmill! It releases lots of tension, and so far no weight gain. Keep the quit and keep posting! At what point does the patch do more harm than good?

Lookinglass, I can only speak from past experience. Several years ago I quit for 3 years, intially I used the 14mg patch. The biggest thing it did for me was to keep me from lighting up- the package clearly states it is dangerous to smoke with the patch on (I chose to believe that whether it was really true or not), so I didn't smoke. I used it for 10-12 days and then just stopped (I didn't use the step down mehtod they recommended) and didn't suffer any major withdraw symptoms. For this quit I am again using the 14mg patch, I'm only one week into the quit but I am already taking the patch off earlier each day (by 4:30 yesterday). I plan to stop using it altogether sometime soon. I think at this point for both of us it is a matter of determination and commitment, and not so much NRT. Best of luck to you, keep us posted!! Without you, I'm not sure I would have made it to this point. Keep the quit!! :)Dupe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 114 Amount Saved: $22.4 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 29 Seconds: 27

Here's a good laugh for you!

I went to put gas in my car this afternoon but alas my gas cap was gone! I tried to remember when I had last filled up and it hit me- day 2 of my quit when I was in a COMPLETE fog!! So the next time you see someone driving down the road with a gas cap on their trunk, please don't make fun of them- maybe they just quit smoking. Oh yeah, the fog is lifting, I actually remembered this story!!
