Day one for me

This is day one for me, I've been reading the posts and think this site could really help me quit for good this time. Today has been easier than I thought. I'm using the patch but I'm more concerned about the psychological cravings than the physical ones. For all you seasoned quitters- will tomorrow be the same or will my cravings get worse? Thanks, Dupe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Day one for me

Thank you everyone for your kind words of welcome and encouragement. I plan to take this one day at a time and hope that this time next week I can give some encouraging advice to another newbie! There's no way to say this nicely....

Changing, This was not the news I was hoping to hear. I am on day three, consipated and having gassiness (I think that can be a word if we want it to). Just last night I had to pause my treadmill at the gym to make a trip to the bathroom due to this gassiness (that's probably more information than you need but I thought it might make you feel better). Let me know when this eases up or if you find anything that releaves it. I was hoping by day 17 these symptoms would be behind me (no pun intended there). :p I have increased my water intake and my exercise routine too. Best of luck and keep us posted!! Dupe

anyone else in a fog???

Hello friends, This is day three for me and most of it went okay. This evening I was talking with my husband and he told me 2 stories from work, one good news and one bad news. I was very interested in what he was telling, I was listening, and they were stories about people I knew. When he finished the second story I realized I couldn't remember a single thing about the first story. I've had a few similar incidents like this since quitting. When will this end? I'm a speech therapist, it would be very embarassing to be working with a stroke patient with short term memory loss and tell them I don't think I can help you because I just quit smoking!!!!!!!!! Please tell me I've only lost nicotine and not brain cells too! I'm scared

Denise, Welcome! I hope you find this site as helpful as I have. I like it because it takes you through a whole preparation phase before you quit- this aspect was missing in all my previos quits. For me this is much better than a meeting or support person calling you. I too have always been a closet smoker, most of my co-workers and some of my family don't know I smoke (or at least don't tell me they know) so I haven't been able to share my quit with many people. I find this site to be full of useful information and numerous people willing to share their experiences and offer support and encouragement. Good luck and visit often!! Day 1 all over again

Welcome Supernova! I had my fifth day one (over the course of many years) 4 days ago so don't beat yourself up about doing it again. The good news is-you are doing it again. I have found more inspiration from this website than any other method I've tried before. I have found that the more time I invest in my quit the less I'm willing to screw it up. We are all here for you. Good Luck, we can do this!!!!!!!!! What's up with the coffee?

imallclear, I gave up caffeine 11 months ago on the recommendation of my physician due to fibroid breast disease. I stopped drinking coffee (easier than stopping nicotine but still not pleasant) and started drinking hot green tea (yuck is the best adjective that comes to mind). After about three weeks with the tea I switched to decaf flavored coffees- I was so happy to be rid of the green tea that I didn't even notice they were decaf! I've not had a cup since I quit though, I think it would trigger a craving for nicotine! Best of luck to you! Who Are We

Mercy, I think this is a good idea. I'm from Ohio, a self-employed speech therapist with a husband and 2 kids (12 and 10). I love my job, my family and simple living. In the fall my husband and I operate a pumpkin business which keeps us quite busy. This quit is my 40th birthday present to myself. I stumbled upon this website one night surfing the web and is has truly been a blessing. This is my 5th quit attempt and I have never felt this positive or driven in any past attempt. I have found new information and unbelievable support since I joined. I feel I am now armed to quit for a lifetime (it also keeps my fingers busy so I don't smoke!). Why Not?

Windy, Wow I'm impressed! Good for you and good luck in your training, please let us know how it goes. I'll be rooting for you! I too am finding exercise more pleasant, helpful and possible since my quit. :) :) :) Dupe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58 Amount Saved: $9.6 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 19 Seconds: 53

Anyone quitting 3/27?

Bobbi, Hi and welcome to the site!! I quit 3/11 but we will all be here to support you regardless of your date. It's nice to have newbies like me and veteran quitters around so you can get different perspectives. This site provides some wonderful resources and exercises to complete before your quit so be sure to take advantage of them. I have never posted on any other site but find myself posting daily here. One thing I would recommend is to think about some rewards for each day during the first week, when you first quit that seven day mark feels 7 months away. I bought a home tooth whitening kit and started using it day 1, I bought new exercise pants on day 2 and on day 3 I spent the whole evening on this website and didn't do a lick of my regular evening routing (I even left dirty dishes on the counter overnight!). So plan some special treats to help those first few days, I'm finding the more I invest in this the less I am willing to screw it up! Keep us posted and good luck!!!!!!!! ;)Dupe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58 Amount Saved: $9.6 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 20 Seconds: 47
