Hope you stick with it mrlucky. Just got to keep reminding yourself that you're not a kid anymore and if you haven't had a heart attack yet, the chances of having one is high in your fifties if you're a smoker. Hell, a friend of mine was 52 and in great physical shape, yet he smoked 2/3 packs a day and had two heart attacks over the course of a week. Thank god he suvived and quit smoking. I could tell this same story again almost exactly except replace "friend" with "grandmother". Same thing happened to her. Just quit throwing all your money away on killing yourself. Stop contributing to making your stay on Earth that much shorter, all the while helping make a tobacco company even more money. At the end of the day that's all you're doing is killing yourself and making that non-smoking girlfriends eyes water. Put the money that you don't spend on cigarettes to good use. Open a seperate savings accound and put the money you would normally use for cigarettes every week in there. Then at the end of the year you'll have a couple bucks saved up that you can use to go on a vacation, or buy that John Deer mower you've always wanted, or whatever. I'd with you good luck, but luck has nothing to do with it. Just quit! Good on you! Volunteering the quit while healthy is surely better than the doc giving you an ultimatum of life or death if you choose to smoke. Yesterday was hell

Hey good job on not caving in. It happens and some cave and some don't. Luckily you are one of the strong ones. I bought a pack after being smoke free for a month and a half but I never made it out of the store. I just returned them knowing full well I'd hate myself if I smoked even one of those things. It gets easier, trust me. They simply get further and further from your mind and you eventually find other things to occupy your time. Going away for vacations!!!

I hate to point to certain brands of substitutes but if I were in your shoes and were going to be hanging around with smokers that early in a quit, I'd choose Altoids. They're strong and keep you busy. Sour candy like Icebreaker Sours or other strong breath mints really help as well. Chew on a straw or better yet, spit sunflower seeds at your dirty smoker friends. Shutterbug, It sounds like you're doing fantastic! Stick with it and lose the morning coffee. Not because I'm a health nut, but because it is the #1 reason people I know say they go back to smoking. You can wake up just as easy with a walk around your neighborhood or a mile on a treakmill and it's better for you. Good luck with your husband too. What do I do with all the money ???

Well, my pop saves the money he would normally buy smokes with and purchases new toys (mig welder, sand blaster, etc)for his shop. I'm personally planning a trip to Greece on day 365 of being smoke free. Congradulations, by the way! bombed on Day One again

You could try an exercise bike if you're able. I picked up a Vitamaster and it has helped me immensely. Both as a morning stimulant and a way to lose weight after quitting. I gained around 70 pounds but have since taken it off with morning exercise and eating better. I was doing similar stuff and couldn't get a fix on the day until I had a couple cups of coffee. But I couldn't have coffee without a cigarette. So that kept me from quitting smoking, until I realized I didn't need either of them and quit both caffeine and tobacco. I wish you good luck on your journey and hope you decide to be healthy and quit the filthy habit.
