How low can you go??!!

You're doing much better than I am. I haven't even quit yet and I have to, I want to, but I'm still afraid to. Does that make sense? Hang in there, please. I'm taking these little steps myself and I'm going to have take the big plunge right along with you. I really want and need some ideas ahead of time to ease the cravings. I know those cravings will be there and I want to be armed and ready.

THINKING ABOUT SMOKING

Hey There Sunshine, I'm very new to my quit so I'm still learning as I go, with the help of my support group here on this site. Don't be afraid that you're having to practice some of the techniques that you used in the beginning of your quit. Practicing those techniques certainly isn't a step backwards for you. It just means you're well equipped to handle any cravings that may come along the way, whether it's now or a year from now. The phone and the car are also triggers for me. Maybe if you use the phone outside of your car, it'll help some by having one less trigger. Maybe it'll help if you won't subject yourself to both triggers at the same time. Trying again.

Hi MomMom, This one was rough alright. I thought it might be a little easier because I really decided to think more positive rather than thinking about how deprived I feel right now. I spent a great part of the day reading this site just to maintain that positive attitude and my quit. That feeling that I've lost my companion kept slipping in and that made this day very hard to get through. Thank God it is almost over. At least when we're sleeping, our bodies can do keep kicking out the nicotine while we catch a well needed break. At one point today, I thought maybe I'll just drive down to the store and buy two packs of the strongest, nastiest smokes I can find and chain smoke. Just light one right off the other so that I feel really good and sick from smoking way too much. Then it hit me, I've done that several times in the past and it never made me quit. So, here I am still sloshing from all of the water I've been drinking, a wad of gum about the size of my fist in my mouth, and I'm still saying, "I Will Do This." Well, I'm trying to say that but I have a huge wad of gum in my mouth!! ha ha I can't say much of anything. I sound a whole lot like Charlie Brown's school teacher. Oh, what I'd give to go back years ago to the very first time I was offered a smoke and know what I know now. MomMom, this one was really hard but we're still hanging in there. Let's just keep right on talking to each other and with everyone else. I know it's going to get easier and we'll feel a lot better. We just both want that to happen, NOW....YESTERDAY is even better. I'll be thinking about you and let's try our best to hang in there. We really can beat this and we're both off to a good start. Im doing everything and im still gaining!

I'm too new to this to know the answer as to if anyone has ever lost weight during their quit. I can tell you that I'm diabetic and had no choice but to cut my carbs down. NOT OUT but way down. The body can't go without carbs or you'll become weak. The diabetic diet which is, lots of lean protein, skim milk or 2% milk, and lots of veggies has caused me to lose about 20 lbs. I can eat a huge steak, a SMALL potato, and salad three times a day and never gain a pound. I don't know if it'll stay that way now that I've quit smoking but I'm hoping that it will. I can only recommend the diet that caused me to lose so much weight and I wasn't even trying to lose. I wish I could be of more help. Hello, I`m New to-day

Dear Hoppy, I know exactly what you meant when you said, "I'd light up without even knowing it." I've done the same thing so many times that I wonder just how many cigarettes I burned up with only three or four puffs taken. For me, it seemed like I constantly had one lit unless I was sleeping. I just quit two days ago and I won't lie, it hasn't been easy but this site has been a great support group for me. I have to be able to talk to someone who understands what I'm going through. Patches, nicorette gum, the lozenges and all of those tools aren't an option for me. I'm diabetic so the oral quit tools have sugar in them which I can't have. I'm 46 years old and I have three children that I want to see have children of their own. Quitting isn't an option for me if I want to see my grandchildren. It isn't an option for me at all. Fact is, I'm sick of lugging around that ball and chain and I know you are too. It's never, ever too late to quit. You can do this and we all understand how tough it is. Lord knows, I'm not pro at quitting but I can sure be here to listen to you if or when you need to talk. We can do this together. Take Care and Good Luck. Mind Games

Dear ImAllClear, I thought about some of the things you mentioned just an hour or so ago. I didn't think about moving my desk and computer and that's a great idea. I thought about thoroughly cleaning the office and carpets. Even taking down the curtains and washing them. Then lighting some candles, spraying carpet freshener everywhere and having the whole place smelling so nice and CLEAN. Thank you for the pointers and I'm going to get busy doing just that...disassociating myself from any and everything that reminds me of cigarettes. I appreciate your help so much. Hanging In There

TryAgain, I'm so proud of you and your husband for vacuuming up that one cigarette. Now see, if that had been me, I would have smoked that one since it was already out of a pack. I would have convinced myself that just one smoke wouldn't hurt anything. I did know that if I had opened that full pack, no way would I have stopped at one. So, I came running to this site for support. Sad thing is, I couldn't make myself destroy the pack. I had to have my husband do it when he came home from working graveyards. I can't tell you how many times I woke up during the night just thinking about that pack of smokes. Believe me, my husband knows not to buy another pack. ha ha ha Thank you for your support. I really need it. I cant believe i am angry and depressed and i only quit yesterday

Thank you Josie for your post. I really appreciate it and I've pasted it on a word document for constant referral. Now Babygirl, you're like me too by relying on humor. Have you seen the movie "Anger Managment" with Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler? The part where they're on the highway and they're both singing, "I Feel Pretty." ha ha ha I keep singing that song in the goofiest voice I can come up with each time a craving hits or when I start feeling crabby. And, look in the mirror while making ridiculous expressions and sing, "You are so beautiful to me." ha ha ha Corny song and it has become a joke but that's the point. Now I'm using your Arnold impression. I have to laugh. I'd rather do that than cry and wallow in self pity. Then I tell myself, "Wait, I'm not being deprived of a thing here. I'm depriving those smokes from controlling my life. I'm the one in charge." I'm still chipping away at the minutes and hours. We'll keep right on working at it together. Thank you so much for your help and support. This site and everyone here are priceless. Mind Games

You guys are great for me. Just the thought of you all taking time out of your day to spend with me makes me feel incredibly special and so, so strong. I've discovered that I can't use nicorette gum or the lozenges because they contain sugar and, I'm diabetic. So, I'm going to lean on all of you and so far, you're helping me in so many ways and I can't thank you enough. I remember when I was diagnosed with diabetes just 4 years ago. In shock of learning that I had developed this disease and knowing that my life was about to drastically change, A brother of mine told me, "Diabetes doesn't have to be a death sentence." That statement has always stuck with me and I went into managing my blood sugar and diet with that thought in mind. On top of all of your help and support, I've decided to put that same thought into action when it comes to my quit. Giving up cigarettes isn't a death sentence but, smoking them sure is. Diabetes changed my lifestyle completely. Of course, I can't have sugar but I never was a big sweets eater. I'm your biscuits, potatoes, and gravy kind of gal and that was the problem. So, here it's been 4 years and I haven't eaten a biscuit and you know, I adjusted to that. I adjusted to the diet. I had to if I didn't want Diabetes to be that death sentence. I know, with your help and support, that I can adjust to my life without cigarettes. I'm trying not to over think things each time a craving hits. I refer back to your posts and I keep my thoughts brief but encouraging. I won't say this is easy but, I know too that the truly wonderful things in life don't come easy. I'm on the road and I know all of you are walking with me. What a comfort!! Thank you all so much. Trying again.

Yes Aunt Deb, I remember Peggy Bundy. ha ha ha ha That's a good one. That's no longer me either. I'm taking it a minute at a time and each time a craving hits, I'm thinking more positive rather than thinking I'm so deprived now that smokes are gone. You can also hear me when I walk from the water sloshing back and forth in my tummy. ha ha ha I do have my meter up and running now. It helps when you set it up right. LOL I've found the most wonderful people on this site and they're all helping me so much. Thank you all!! Each and every one of you.
