Tooten my own horn :-)

Sparky: The beating of ones self shall stop now. The congratulating of ones self shall commence!!!! Hurray for you! Never doubt yourself. From what I gather, you just keep coming back and coming back and you never quit quitting. That's awesome! Keep the faith -- and the quit. is anyone actually saving their cigarette money?

That's exactly the trick, Peteg, you have to actually REMOVE the money from your account -- in cash. Otherwise, it just gets lost in the day to day and loses its significance. I chose Wednesday because then I have a fun activity on the same day each week. I look forward to my ATM trips. Sometimes I think, oh, I'd better skip this week, because.....(whatever lame excuse I might have on a given week). BUT, when I spent the money on cigarettes, I ALWAYS found the money, didn't I? Never any excuses then. It really is such fun to see the bills adding up and filling up the jar. Thanks for the feedback. Keep the faith -- and the cash, too! Human Nature/Basic Animals

Gonna: I know how difficult this has been for you, but nobody can tell you how you are feeling/should feel/will feel. It's your call and your choice, as you know. Peteg's words were wonderful and I couldn't agree more with his sentiments. Very well written. Hang in there and please be good to yourself. We need you and your wisdom here, in all your "human-ness". Keep the faith and let's start anew! 12 hours smoke-free

Hee hee, Interesting! Yes, I think you should definitely go back to the store and explain the unique circumstances. Let me know how that goes. Then, when you try my technique ("I've quit smoking and I'm just not myself yet") and non-smokers just roll their eyes at you, smile knowingly and say, "Non-smokers can't possibly understand". That usually shuts them up. Good luck when school starts again -- you'll be fine. Tell the students you've quit smoking -- many will understand or even be envious. Keep the faith. Unexpected test today...

Monica: I know exactly what you mean! I was shocked to discover how bad smokers smell. I'm embarrassed for myself retroactively. It's just nasty! My husband, who still smokes, thinks I'm taking an "attitude", but my repulsion to the smell is very real. I'm as surprised as anybody, to tell you the truth. Good for you, though, for being honest with your friend. Keep the faith My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 86 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,472 Amount Saved: $688 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 8 Mins: 23 Seconds: 40

This site for losing weight

Windy: What does that mean? Where or how do we get the information? I, too, need to do something to stave off the extra pounds. I've already gained about 6 pounds -- something must be done! Help! arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

formyson: It is tough, no question about it. But isn't anything that's worthwhile? You must take a look at the self-talk, the language you use. If you continually say to yourself "I really want a cigarette", you're making it much rougher than it needs to. Because you're telling yourself how deprived you feel. I understand your comment about the blue elephant, but if you turn your self-talk from "I really need....I really want....a cigarette" into "I am choosing to be a non-smoker" or "boy, this addiction of mine really wants control again. No more!" NOPE.....Not One Puff Ever Hang in there -- the first few days are definitely the most difficult. Keep the faith. my reason

Young people quitting smoking? Bring them on! If we can help save the young ones from decades of addiction and health problems, we will do it! But, first they need to understand that it IS an addiction and they need to research what addiction really means. In my experience, teenagers tend to believe they can quit "any time" they want and don't think they're addicted. How can we help?
