I am new!

Thanks for all the well wishes. So far feel great! (Am kind of ticked at my self for putting off quitting all summer and feeling crummy all summer) The first three days have usually been the worst on other tries and am almost there! I alos know that as soon as I step down to a lower level of patch, I always hit a tough spot. Have heard that cammomile tea really helps so have stocked up! I am from Canada, and find it much easier to quit when the weather cools, as the patches don't like to stick in the heat. (at least on me!) Thanks again, love the wealth of info and support on this site! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 69 Amount Saved: $23 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 48 Seconds: 18

Welcome, New Folks!

Hi everyone, I am on day 3, so far feel great, have had a few antsy times, but still going. I smoked for 36 years, on and off, have tried hypnosis, zyban, nicorette, but found I like the patch the best. (My husband jokes about my quitting 703 times, some days it feels like its been that many, I told him at least I was still trying) I came across this site while looking for knowledge and support and the most important thing I noticed was you could talk to others in the same "boat". No other sites offer this! Our three kids are all grown, and I am a Grandma (LOVE THAT) of a very busy little three year old, (reason #2, to be able to spend more time and see more Grandkids!) Only one of my kids smokes, and she is also trying to quit, which helps. I still work full time (am there now!) so that helps too.Find supper time to be the most stressfull, as I smoked alot then, but am finding taking deep breaths really helps, and I already tried the straw thing, that helps too. Thank you so much for the support here! What a great bunch of people! Will check in often, there is so much info here! I am new!

Day 3 and still going. This site has already been a help to me> Just knowing that there are so many other people going through the same problems every day is such help all on its own. Finding supper time to be a bit stressful, so tried the straw thing and deep breaths, yes they work! Am feeling pretty confident that with help like this I have no choice but to succeed! Thank you, all you wonderful supportful people! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 86 Amount Saved: $34.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 9 Mins: 44 Seconds: 8

I am new!

I quit smoking Monday morning (sept 18). I am in my fifties and smoked for 38 years, the last few years I have tried and quit many times, only to give in and start again. This time I am quite fed up with the "drag" that the smoking has become (dry throat, nasty headaches, totally stuffed sinuses, coughing, and dragging my tired butt out of bed each day) Last night was tough, the patch (my drug of choice) wasn't sticking very well, and I got very irritable. I was close to heading for the store, but put a new patch on instead and boy was I glad this morning. I know I can do this, have done it before and even though I know I will go through bouts of depression and anger,I have quit enough times and long enough to feel how good it feels to be free of them. Many times I have said this is it! But I think I have garnered enough information and tools to get me through this time. Wish me luck! I have been reading the postings and whoever came up with this idea is a genius, it really helps to talk to someone else going through the same thing! Thank you for this website! :)

Calorie Count Diet

Has anyone else tried the "South Beach" diet? It is low carb, but only for the first 2 weeks, is based on the glycemic index, so is better than Atkins. I have lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks on this diet, and once you read the book, you'll be shocked. My conlusion "No wonder I felt like crap, I was eating crap" It was designed by a heart specialist in Miami. Check it out! Horrible Day..and its only 9:00am!!

Been there, done it all! I really don't understand why that is.The last time I quit, my whole week was hell, I was so angry and growly, just snapping at anything. This time, I am mellow. How can that be? My whole week has been pretty easy. (Waiting for the "other" shoe to drop?) Having quit so many times before, I can honestly tell you that the quilt I felt after starting smoking again was worse (in my heart) than being *****y at the hubby & kids. It is withdrawal from a very addictive drug , and we need to remember that. Deep breaths and a little "I WILL GET BETTER WITH EACH AND EVERY MOMENT THAT I DON'T SMOKE" will help! Good luck, your hubby will survive! NO OFFENSE NOTHING PERSONAL

I must say that after trying to quit so many times, that the beauty of this site is this. When you fall and go back to smoking for awhile, you already feel like a spineless worthless failure, and usually (I have found) friends and family don't help, they are disappointed too. Coming here, you get the support you need. Youre told it's okay to have fallen and they encourage you to get back up and go again. I didn't get that from my family and friends. We learn from other peoples mistakes too. I don't mind reading the posts of those who have failed (As I am one of them) because it reminds me just how very hard this task is, and just how more determined I need to be to make it. To those who quit in March 07

Am inspired by the Feb 07 quitters joining together for support. Anyone who has recently quit in March please join up so we can compare notes and help each other! This is day 5 for me, and I have begun coughing up the black stuff. It was really scarey at first but then I realized my lungs are healing themsleves, so its all good. This site is so helpful, I cannot thank enough people for the encouragement I have already received here.
