Well, at the first of the year, I had two things I needed to do. Lose wieght and quit smoking. So I dedicated the first half of the year to losing weight because I figured out that if I changed to a healthier lifestyle, smoking wouldn't fit it anymore and I was right! It has really helped me in my quit!
The second half is dedicated to quiting smoking. Not that I am letting myself go with the weight eather but by now, it is kind of automatic.
Next, I have to tackle caffine addiction.
Then, I think spoiling my children.
Then who knows.
The point is, yes, I do have an addictive personality which I come by honestly because both my parents were alcoholic and smokers. I do really believe in the genetic component to addiction.
I got away without the alcohol addiction because I knew better from the start and never took a drink. I wasn't that smart about the smoking.
Maybe you have relatives who also have this. Don't feel down on yourself, it isn't your fault or anything. Now it's up to you what you want to do about it.
Love,
Mama

Feeling spacey is really one of the major withdrawl symptoms. What they say is that it is the carbon monoxide withdrawl. That is a poison and you should be glad to be getting it out of your system. It will pass.

I empathize with both of you because in Jan I was also overweight. I went on weight watchers and joined the ymca. But you don't have to join a club. See if you can get a hold of excersize tapes. I particularly liked Leslie Sanson Walk away the pounds. It was great at first because they are not too vigerous so you can't do them at first. But they are just right.
Anyways, I send you encouragement. I lost all the weight and feel great, it can be done.
Oh yeah, I did weight watchers, but I didn't go to meetings, I just went a few times to get the idea, then did it on my own. I still use it to keep it off.
Actually, it's really quite simple. More calories out then goes in. Write down everything you eat.
Love,
Mama

Brenda,
It's really simple. More calories out then in. I would love to say there is an easier way, but that is really about it.
I used weight watchers because this is really the basic program. But there are many others.
For one thing, start writing down everything you eat. You will be surprized at how much it really is when you don't track it. Then, there is a website you can look at (I can't post a link and don't even know if I can put this) (Do a web search on calorie king) that you can get the calories of almost any food. Look up on the web how many calories your body needs to function, (it will be according to your height and weight) and stay under that.
For instance, I am 5'4" and 128lbs so I need 1800 calories just for functioning. I stay under that, plus work out, I lose weight. Simple. To gain a pound, you have to eat 3500 calories excess of that number.
Post for me if you need help figuring this out.
Love,
Mama Melba
