Hi Fran!!! You are on the right track. I am 5l smoked 35 years and always told myself I could not do this. I surprised myself, I CAN do this. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I also prepared myself. I have been talking myself into this for a year. Grabbing all the info I could to help me. I sew and for the first l0 days, someone saw to it I had lots to do. HAd all kinds of altering to do for others. I even sewed a quilt top I have wanted to do for several months. I was a totally committed smoker, feeling I loved to smoke and would never be able to quit. Most the time, I don't miss it. Hang in there, it does get better and you will feel better. This site has been very helpful for me, just reading it every morning while I get through that first craving of the day.
YOU CAN DO IT!!! :)

Hi Bambi; Sounds like me. I am using patch and cravings have not really been bad, not like I expected after 35 years of smoking. I do get one once in awhile, have to tell myself smoking will not make me feel better, only I can do that. My morning craving has pretty much left, and when it is there, I grab my coffee and get on this site. I have never quit for more than a day before, this time I was informed and committed and I tell myself when a craving does hit, it will pass, You will get thru it, come to this site when you need help. Keep up the good work.

Checking in!! Doing great and soooo proud of myself for not giving in to this habit. I just tell myself smoking will not make anything better. I even went to a movie with my daughter who smokes and her car smells terrible. She didn't smoke in the car and didn't want me to smell smoke when she did before the movie. I didn't even want one. Actually don't miss it much at all anymore. :p

Has anyone experience horrible leg aches. I am using the patch and maybe since I actually get oxygen to my legs, it is a healing sign. I have seen a chiroprator several times, but may have to go to the Dr.
I am just in tears this morning they hurt. Thanks for any help!! :(

Welcome Fitz!!I am a fairly new non-smoker. I was scared as Hell to quit, actually the days before my quit date were scarier that the quit day itself. You have to prepare, prepare and prepare some more. Any information you can arm yourself with helps with your decision to quit. I smoked 35 years and always told myself I could not do this. But guess what I have been smokefree since Feb l7. I have more energy, sleep better, and everyone that knows I quit is soooo proud of me and supportive. A good share of them are previous smokers and quit years ago. Come here often, it really helps and everyone here is great even if you just read., go through all the tools. Good luck and hope we hear from you again soon.

Hats off to you Riverdale Man. I have the same quit day and today is two weeks for me too. Had my first tension test yesterday, anger frustration and all that and I got through it, telling myself a cigarette isn't going to make me feel better. This seems to have been the right time and place for me to quit. Doing great, feeling better, and feeling mighty proud of myself.
Happy l4 days!!!!

I quit Feb l7. Not totally on my own, got involved with a university 3 year study. Getting lots of help, but this site has been a lifesaver when I have my morning cravings, I just get on the computer.
Smoked 35 years and was just sick of it... I am from Southern Wisconsin, married 29 years and 2 lovely daughters, Want to be around for grandkids we may have. I already feel wonderful and it hasn't been as hard as I thought. Keep up the fight everyone. I plan too.

Aaahhh! Glad to see this is a common problem. I was wondering the past week also. Lots of gas and it isn't pleasant. First time I have posted. This site has been awesome and I am feeling great about my days of not smoking after 35 years.

Good Morning Ally:
You really should check with your Doctor if you are concerned with any side effects. Research the quit methods out there as much as you can and arm yourself with this information.
I used the patch and hardly had any cravings. I mainly had to work on the bad habit part. Each person is totally different in thier reaction to the different methods out there.
I am cutting down patch earlier as I have developed a skin allergy, not just rash, more like a bad sunburn. Dr. said to wean off faster, so here I go. Good luck in your efforts to quit.
