First day

Chico, get rid of those cigarettes right now! Get rid of ashtrays, lighters, everything! Make the commitment! Work the tools! You can do it! Weekend Promise 3/3/06

No smoking this weekend in north Florida, where the air is fresh, the daffodils have bloomed, and the robins are flying way north. Hang in there, you northern folks. Spring is on its way to you, too! This is my first day of freedom.

Welcome Nuka and wife! Congratulations for taking control of your life and coming to the best place to do it. We have a couple of wife and husband teams here, so we know that it can be done in tandem. Just make sure at the same time that you own your own quit, so that there's no competition or hurt feelings if one has a slip. The Daily Diet Watch IV

A daily commitment to eating well...that's a great idea, Lady! Melanie, you're right...we do get to indulge once in a while. Otherwise, what's all this hard work for anyway? And Wendy, another great idea to donate rather than buy! I guess when cookie season rolls around, we think with our stomachs rather than our brains. Hummy, I see health coming to your house and spring arriving soon. My robins said something about Hummy's place next. :) I'm feeling great today - day off and nobody's schedule but my own. Have a happy smokefree day, everybody! Need a new quitter freind to discuse progress with

Superwoman, Elle, and Kel....there's no place for support like the SSC. All of us have been through everything that you're experiencing and we can help you. Be sure to work the program tools over on the left and read and post often. It is so worth it to battle through the first few days...you will see a light at the end of the tunnel. What would you say...

What a great thread, Ang! I think I agree with you...I would talk about addiction, in the same language as I would talk about crack or meth or heroin. Except there's no high. Just a lie. First day

realizationsabound, I hope you're still with us. I found that drinking lots of water and juices help flush the nicotine out. Also, be sure to eat something every few hours to keep your blood sugar up. Rusty :)

No matter what I do I can't stop!

Elaine, I hear in your voice that you want to stop but you don't know how. I would like to hear you change "No matter what I do I can't stop" to "I want to find a way to stop." Instead of "No matter hard I try I fail," how about "I can do this." Do you know how I know you can do it? Look at my stats and look at all the people on this site. We are all in different stages and we all have different situations, but the one thing we ALL have in common is a HUGE commitment to quit. It takes knowledge, a positive attitude and firm determination to do it, but it CAN be done. It is hard. It is the hardest thing most of us have ever done. We don't realize what addiction is until we try to stop. But I think that once we face the fact that this is true addiction, not just a bad habit, and we are junkies, not just smokers, then the light starts to appear at the end of the tunnel. Work the program tools over on the left and read as many posts as you can. Ask questions. Learn everything there is to know. Make a plan. But above all, know that this can be done and you can do it! Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 445 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,480 Amount Saved: $1557.5 Life Gained: Days: 61 Hrs: 7 Mins: 32 Seconds: 54
