I decided to Quit on Monday just past so I have been 4 days so far... this is the second time I have tried to quit in the last year and a half and last time i failed miserably.... so far I am already doing better, barely having any cravings and am in a much better mood.... I just know it is probably going to get harder before it gets easier and I figure the best support is other people that have done the same thing, I had decided to try using the thrive losenges but found that they tasted like battery acid! I am now trying the natural remedies such as vitamin c, magnesium, chlorella(algae capsules), and cream of tartar which apparently flushes the nicotine out of your system and is not bad for you, it is a powder that you put one teaspoon into a glass of orange juice, grapefruit juice, or pineapple juice before bed. just thought i would throw out the tips for others to try.... the cream of tartar is used for 7 days and in that time should flush all nicotine out of your system completely ridding you of cravings!

Messed up again

try going to your grocery store and buying Cream of tartar it will be with the baking stuff, not tartar sauce (i got that mixed up at first, its a powder used for making angel food cake) and add 1 teaspoon to a glass of orange juice every night before bed and continue to smoke if need be but only smoke when you actually crave it and you will find your craving it alot less with each day that you have the cream of tartar, also get 250mg magnesium and take 3 times a day and 500 mg vitamin C twice a day and 1250mg of chlorella twice a day, it can be bought in capsule, tablets of powder form if you buy the tablets or capsules your have to chew them up so i suggest getting the powder because it tastes like pond scum, but as a smoker of 14 years and trying to quit many times i am finding this the easiest time I have ever had trying to quit. i did it cold turkey and have had little to no cravings. Hope this helps... all of these supplements can be purchased at any health food stores, and like i said the cream of tartar is at every grocery store!

Luckily for me I am not alone in Quitting, my hubby, my brother, and my sister-in-law are all quitting with me so we will all be able to offer each other support, and I am also hoping to be able to draw support from here when things get really tough. We are all approaching it in a different way and with different quit dates, my hubby and sister-in-law are trying cold turkey he started tuesday, she started today, I am trying natural remedies started monday and my brother is trying the low level laser started yesterday, so i will make sure to keep everyone in the know on what works for us and what doesn't.

Day 4 - and hello!

Hi Kettles,

I know exactly how you feel when you go to the doctor with "the never ending cold" to get your meds and inhalers, I am 24 and went through the exact same thing last week which is exactly why I am attempting this again, when i went to my doctor he basically told me... you have chronic bronchitis and until you quit smoking its never going to go away .... and like usual he gave me a prescription and sent me on my way. I have had to go to the hospital at times because my oxygen levels were in the 70% range and i couldn't breathe, and they look at you and shake their heads when you say "I smoke".... I have been quit for 4 days now and already I am finding that I can breathe better and I am using my inhalers less! good luck!! Another option that the nurse at my doctors office gave me was to buy a game boy or PSP type system and just play it whenever you get a craving that's how she quit and shes been smoke free for over 10 years... I hate video games or I may have tried it  :)

dealing with mood swings

I am on day 10 and trying to stay strong, my hubby and I are quitting together and that is the only part that is not going well, we quit together a year ago and i ended up moving out for a few months because we fought so much, we both gave in to temptation and started again after the split,  when I moved back in we were both smoking again and things were back to normal (no more fights) but now with this quit we are back at each others throats, we argue and place blame for things and insult each other, i just dont understand how in the 3 years that we have been together we only fight when we quit smoking.... will we go back to normal? or is this just the way we really are with out cigarettes? I don't like him like this and I know he doesn't like me like this so I just want to make sure we are both going to go back to our fun loving, happy go lucky selves... the people that love each other! or are we destined to hate each other and be miserable together! or should we call it quits and go our separate ways?

Controversy

I believe that each quit is unique as well, and what works best for one person may not work for another, and that being said I have watched it happen with my own eyes in the last 10 days, I quit cold turkey using natural herbs for assistance 10 days ago, my hubby quit 10 days ago also only he just quit cold turkey, my brother quit 6 days ago using low level laser, my sister in law quit 5 days ago using the thrive losenges, and my mother is working on quitting through an herbal quit system (my entire family is quitting other then dad who quit 20 years ago) and i am watching each of us struggle with different aspects.... it really doesnt matter what you do to quit each person struggles with something or another and you will find your own way of dealing with each struggle! the biggest hurdle is to get past your cravings! and know that a slip is not a failure it is a learning experience!

Thanks everyone! its been 14 days now and I almost cracked this weekend, Saturday was really tough on me, I thought about just going to the store a few times that day but I would just talk myself out of it and remind myself that I needed to be strong! and after a while the stress would wind down the irritability would diminish and the cravings would disappear and I would be back to my normal self!

Need advice!

Hi Kat

Congrats on 13 days! I am at Day 17 now and am still baffled by the surprise cravings in the 12-14 day range, they sneak up and just pummel you, but as baffling as they are its just as confusing that they stopped at day 14 in the same manner, I went to the bulk food store and bought sugar-free power mints, they are very strong but I found it really helped for when the cravings got really bad, it really does get better, with each passing day it gets alittle bit more easy and you learn alittle bit more about yourself. Good luck!!

I am still here.

Hi hopefulbutscare,
Congratulations on 17 days! it is different with each person when exactly the cravings go away but i have never heard of anyone that has had over powering cravings forever, i know many people that have been quit for 1, 2, 10, 15, and 20 years and they all said they still get a fleeting moment where the smoke may smell good but it is very fleeting and in seconds it is gone and replaced by the realization that they quit years ago and would be stupid to start again! I am 22 days in and am finding it easier with each passing day, people that have quit tell me after day 28 you should be good to go, luckily this site has so much support and so many people that are by your side if at any time you feel a craving or urge there is always someone here to lean on or rant to! good luck! and keep up the quit!!
