First 3 days of Chantix?

yeah, I get that a little but not all day. My wife doesn't. Maybe Chantix is a fancy name for Pot, do feel a bit stoned a times. But been trying to eat a fair amount of fruit and veggies throughout the day and been okay. My co-worker said he got it pretty bad. We have 4-5 people here at my work all on Chantix, and all in different stages. One of them is someone who had quit a month ago but was having some craving problems so is taking it. As far as the buzz, reminds me of how I felt in College :-)

Cravings vs Pleasure

My godfather died from being a Cigar smoker in his early 60's. 7 years later his wife died of Emphysema, she needed oxygen in order to make her way to the coffee table where she would keep her cigarettes. The too smoked for pleasure. Stand your ground!! On Day 2

Day 2 here. In any case, cravings are not as bad and I thought they would be, they kinda pass in a few minutes. My main concern is staying quit as I have fallen back into bad habits before. Been a smoker for 28 years and hope it is not too late! Wife and I both quit yesterday morning. She was pretty apprehensive about it the night before but so far so good. We're both on Day 2. I don't expect to be one of those people who live till their hundreds, never-the-less, all I know is the day I die I want to be relatively healthy and able to get around without wheeling the green bottle with me. My Dad died a few years ago on the tennis court at the age of 72. He used to be a smoker up to the age of 35, I think he quit in time and was lucky. Although very sad he died, I was glad he was healthy and enjoying life and his death was instant. We will all die some day. However we may have some control over how we DON'T die! So, If I am alive, and I am right now, and I have a choice, I choose be healthy, And today, I choose not to Smoke!

How did they invent cigarettes anyway?

I am trying to think of how the idea of selling cigarettes started. Had to be kinda strange dont you think? I'm playing in my head how it went with the company and marketing people. C: we plan to sell this product M: What is it? C: A cigarette M: What do you do with it? C: Light it and inhale it M: Why, it makes you caugh? (general discussion in room amongst board members, then a response) C: Because it will make you look glamourus! M: Ahhh, if you say so, but I don't think this will work. C: YES IT WILL! WE WILL MARKET THE HECK OUT OF IT AND EVERYONE WILL BE HOOKED ON IT AN WE CAN ALL GET RICH!! M: oooh! It's a drug!? C: Yes, but let's not let that get out. M: Gotcha!

Giving up trying

to put things into perspective. what's the difference between a tobacco company and a crack dealer? The tobacco company is incorporated. What is the difference between someone hooked on crack vs someone hooked on cigarettes? The crack addict can go a few hours without a fix. Still have cravings only last for about 5 seconds

I am on chantix, still have cravings from time to time but they are very short lived, only lasting about 3 seconds or so. One thing I am trying to do in spite of what was said is to try and "re-associate" certain past experiences to now not include cigarettes. On day 2 of my journey they said to stay away from things that trigger your desire for a cigarette. Well, without my morning coffee I was like a zombie at work. So off I went to the break room to get my morning cup and yes, as I expected, I had a craving. I acknowledged it said to myself, just as I expected, and kept drinking it. Now, 5 days later coffee does not cause the cravings nearly as bad as before. I went out to the front porch where I used to smoke (now with ash trays removed) and sat down and watched the kids in the neighborhood play. I remembered how I used to smoke there but took a few deep breaths and then went back inside. Cravings? Yes, but very easily controlled. When we were at Myrtle beach the other day my wife and I went into a raw bar, the place was one big smoking section. Talking about putting our cravings to a test!! I had one beer and she had a wine. After devouring some oysters we left. Cravings? Surprising enough not as bad as I originally expected. I laughed and said how come when we were smoking we could never find a place like this. Now that we quit there is isn't a "Non-Smoking" section! :) I figure by re-training my way of thought into re-experiencing things I did as a smoker it will help reduce my cravings when I go off of the chantix. Supposed it could be dangerous but for me so far I have had no problems keeping cravings at bay. Still have cravings only last for about 5 seconds

Thanks for the positive feedback. One last thought. We need to understand the difference between a craving and a memory trigger. The other day I walked into the kitchen opened the draw looking for my lighter. Stopped, laughed at myself cause I forgot I quit. The night before I woke up and thought I had a cigarette the previous day. That was the day we went into the smoky oyster bar. My wife said that happened to her as well. I know the chantix is kickin out my cravings so what I am experiencing is obviously only memories. Memories that I now need to re-create as a non-smoker. By the way, it was not JUST my Doctor who convinced me to quit smoking but a combination of my Mother, my sister, my Dentist, my Co-workers, my friends, my wife but most importantly MYSELF after a 401K retirement calculator told me I would only live to 65 due to my family history and lifestyle! We don't see the damage from our insides but when my dentist showed me how the cigarettes are destroying my teeth and gums and how even with regular flossing I could start loosing teeth in a few years woke me up. BTW, if you want to see some really gross stuff check out Youtube and search for quit smoking. Some of the videos are intense. If you are in craving mode and need something to scare the living bejesus out of you, there is quite a bit there. One was a commercial done in Australia where it talks about all the gunk that congeals in our arteries and looks disgusting. My last comment, I was kind of amused over how many were concerned over possible side affects or long-term problems with Chantix. Now that we are non-smokers we are now concerned over our health. Isnt that great! I dont recall ever reading the Nutrition label on my cigarette packs. :) Thanks again for everyone's support. Can't wait to call my mom tomorrow and give her the best mothers day present a son could give. Telling her I quit smoking and proud of it!

Vivid dreams last night !

My dream was that I was a magician at a vintage nightclub, looked like the 40's or 50's. Boy was I good, you should have seen me! Kinda weird waking up and clearly remembering dreams.

Did everyone quit smoking??

I work at a large building. Six years ago you could not find a seat in the smoke room. Now it is almost empty even with 375 People in the building. Last month one person who was a chain-smoker quit mid April, everyone else including myself said, if he can do it I CAN DO IT! I know of 10 people here that just quit in the past 2 weeks. I guess you can say Peer pressure is now taking over. Instead of the smoke room being jammed pack during lunch, it is now the Ping Pong room, Weightroom, and Aerobics room. It appears that quitting smoking is the New Fad. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 550 Amount Saved: $77.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 11 Mins: 54 Seconds: 35
