Welcome to SSC John and Sue. My husband and I also quit together just a little over a month ago. We are using Chantix as an aide. This is an awesome place with lots of support of encouragement. Read and post as often as you can. The first week was the toughest for me (especially the first few days). I know it's tough, but you CAN do this. When you get time, check out the program tools on the left. It is easier to breathe now, isn't it! Just wait until your taste buds start working well again!! Hi John and Sue. Very cute that you are on here quitting together. Take advantage of the workbook to the left, and read lots of posts - there is amazing info and support to be found. Sounds like you have good attitudes about this - that is a great start. You can (both) do this! John - Welcome - I'm really glad you found us here at the SSC. For me personally, I never would have made it this far without the support of the people here! Remember, every minute that you don't smoke is a minute that your body is healing. Every hour that you don't smoke is an hour that you're giving your body to heal, etc. I'll never forget, and never again put myself through, those first few days of the quit. For me, one of the worst parts was the realization about how much I had messed up my body. It was scary to recognize the profound effect that smoking had on my body - every single bodily function was messed up! Every time I felt edgy or spacey or tired or bloated or whatever - I reminded myself "this is a symptom of those hundreds of toxic chemicals leaving my body and my body healing itself. Stay with us John - it is soooo worth it! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Day 2 here. In any case, cravings are not as bad and I thought they would be, they kinda pass in a few minutes. My main concern is staying quit as I have fallen back into bad habits before. Been a smoker for 28 years and hope it is not too late! Wife and I both quit yesterday morning. She was pretty apprehensive about it the night before but so far so good. We're both on Day 2. I don't expect to be one of those people who live till their hundreds, never-the-less, all I know is the day I die I want to be relatively healthy and able to get around without wheeling the green bottle with me. My Dad died a few years ago on the tennis court at the age of 72. He used to be a smoker up to the age of 35, I think he quit in time and was lucky. Although very sad he died, I was glad he was healthy and enjoying life and his death was instant. We will all die some day. However we may have some control over how we DON'T die! So, If I am alive, and I am right now, and I have a choice, I choose be healthy, And today, I choose not to Smoke!
