positive affirmations

               Hi all,

Just wanted to no if anyone used positive affirmations to help combat the negative thoughts that go
along with panic and anxiety?  I try to use them right before I work on exposure,I have noticed that
it gives me alittle confidence boost.(which I can always use!!)  It would be great if  everyone would
share one of theirs with the forum ! here are two that I like.

Negativity is only a thought and a thought can be changed !

I am a capable person and I can handle anything that comes my way!

I haven't been here in a while again.

            Hi Lore,

First let me say welcome back to the forums, Second I would like to tell you what a strong person you are
to have been through so much! I understand what you went through being married to someone in the service
as I had a brother who was in the army years ago and I lived with him for awhile so I saw alot! It is not an easy
life to adjust to, but you can not blame yourself for your husband not wanting to work on your marriage.
Count this as his loss!!! Now is the time for you to work on yourself for YOU! Anxiety has a way of  damaging
our self esteem, so give yourself permission to love and nurture you, as you are worth it! And then with the program
you can work on the things you want to achieve!  I know that you will be able to go out again and do things
you want and with confidence as you have the drive and strength to do so! so hang in their and keep the faith.

What are you to anxious to do? How is agoraphobia effecting your life?

               Tara Elizabeth,

Welcome to the forums. I can relate  to the list of things you wrote that you have trouble
doing as I have had most of the same issues. As of right now I am working on driving and
being able to go into the grocery store to shop. I thought I had conquered most of my fears
over the years only to have relapses, but I dust myself off and try again.  As for the shopping
I have started with going to smaller stores like the dollar store and have been able to work my way
into staying and working through panic ( I to have a hard time with the checkout line) I know its
because I can't leave in the middle of paying so I distract myself by working on my breathing and
looking at some of the things around the register, and repeating positive affirmations in my head.
It also helps if you go at a slow time of day as diva said. as for the driving, I have started out by
driving in a local park as the traffic is not as busy. By doing these things in small steps I am hoping
to build my confidence so that I can move forward. I agree with diva about listing your achievements
as this will show you that you can overcome alot of your fears. hope this helps.

New Here - OCD with Anxiety

                   Hi momsydoo,

First let me say welcome to the forums!  I can understand where your coming from as I have had
anxiety and panic off and on for at least 20 yrs and I too have raised a daughter while dealing with
its up's and downs. One thing I made sure of was that during the time my daughter was growing up
if I noticed her having any signs of anxiety or stress I would teach her some of the techniques that
I have learned so that she would have the tools to cope. We always talked openly about my anxiety
as we wanted her to know that it was no different then having any other medical problem. Sometimes
it's hard for a spouse to understand about anxiety maybe your husband could read some onfo on it?
As far as people understanding me my close friends were supportive, and people who were not are not in my life.
This juorney is hard enough so I choose to have people around who are there for me. Sorry I'm rambling
on I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. Best wishes.

Positive Thinking, Part II

             Hi Ashley,

What a great topic, I try to use positive affirmations when working on exposure work, it's not always easy.
It's not always easy to come up with affirmations on my own so I found this site.
It is free. I pick one or two that suit me and print them out so that I can have them
with me to use. And I try to remember that it's just as easy to have a good thought as it is to have a bad one

I feel like this will never end

             Carman,

First of all welcome to the forums, I'm sorry to here that you are having a rough time with your meds and
you are having a hard time with waking up during the night. I too wake up several times a night so I know it can
make you edgy. But you can handle this!! Just look at how strong you are! you are taking care of yourself
and your children!!!! That is something in its self to be proud of! Sometimes it helps to look at a situation
from a different angle, instead of worrying about the next four work days take one day at a time, plan for that
first day back. If you can take a break during the day do some stretching or give a friend a call, or maybe
bring a good book to read, just to give yourself a lift.  Starting a job weather its a new one or returning back
to one is always hard, so go easy on yourself.  And know that in spirit we will all be their holding your hand!

brand new and need advice

                      Hi rob,

just wanted to welcome you to the forums! The people are great here.  One thing I do when I'm
trying to explain to someone about my panic attacks, is to ask them one thing that has really scared
them in the past, and then ask them to tell me what they felt at that moment, then  I tell them that's
how I feel when I try to do everyday things most people take for granted, they either get it or they don't.
Either way we can all over come our road blocks! all my best.
