just checking in

                    Hi

It's been awhile since I checked in, At the start of the year I told husband that I wanted
to get a better grip on my anxiety so I went to see my first counselor, I have to say that
she was nice but, It wasn't for me. She asked me about my childhood and my family
members, and if I had experienced any childhood trauma, which in turn I told her that
my childhood was average. Then she started to talk about things I should read, like prayers
and bible scriptures ( first let me say that I am not trying to offend anyone who it works for)
it's just not me, Even though I'm not a very religious person I am a spiritual person. She did
say that we could work on some self esteem exercises. But when I asked if she had a game plan
she didn't really have one. I heard nothing about CBT.  I told my husband that I wasn't
going back. But It did get me in gear! I have Started back on this program ( I know it works if I do!!)
and I also ordered a workbook on self esteem, and I pulled out these CD's that I've had
for awhile out that help replace the negative thoughts with positive one's, the CD's are called think right
now. and my husband and I have been trying to get out everyday to do some exposure work.
I can tell that all this has helped and that I have seen some improvement, but is going to take
some time.  I want to be able to enjoy the things that are coming up in my life and be able
to handle things that I can't foresee yet. So I'm digging in and going for it. Thats it for now
I'll post soon.

                Hi Luciana,

Thanks for replying to my post, you asked about setting goals, one of my goals is to do exposure work by
going into stores at least once a day and working through my negative self talk until I can go in and be
relaxed through the whole experience. The self esteem book is helping as I started the exercises and
the CD's are also. I have been doing my paperwork from this program also, and it helps to right things
down. I have to say that I can feel the difference, and I'm proud of myself for not giving up.

Exposure?

Hi AMJ,

First thing I do when I start a new exposure is to tell myself I can leave at
anytime I choose, then when I start to have the dizzy feelings I acknowledge
that the feeling is their, and then I tell myself that I will try to stay for a few
mins more but if I choose to leave it is ok. I tell myself that I already succeeded
in my goal by trying. I try to make even the little things count. little steps
sometimes work better than big ones.

positive affirmations

        Hi all,

I just wanted to talk about these positive affirmations CD's I've been useing
they seem to really help, I'm so used to hereing my own inner self talk which
is more on the negative side, but when I listen to the cd's it blocks the
self talk. I listen to them while I'm doing other things but I still here the
positive messages in the backround. I took them with me this past week to
the doctors office (which I hate to go to) and I listened to them while
I waited to have some test run, they helped block out the scary thoughts.
you can even make your own recording of possitive affirmations. has anyone
else done this? I think it's helping replace the old negitive ones with new
possitive ones. I can say I had a better week. Hope to here from others about this.

Better week

Hi all,

Just wanted to share that I had a better week, I had to go to the doctors office and
have some test done ( so far everything is checking out good) but I have a new
doctor and I thought it was going to be scary, but it wasn't!! I have been using
the tools from the program and positive affirmations and things went great! I also
have been going into the stores at least once a day and when the inner dialogue
started I just yelled in my head STOP! thats enough, and I contiued on, I kind
of shocked myself by doing it but it worked. So I can say that it has been a good week!
thanks for listening!  best to all.

Accomplishments and other Postive Things

Hi everyone

I haven't been on in about two weeks, I've been working on myself!
I had a good week, I went two of my least favorate places ( lowes
and home depot), I have had panic attacks everytime I go in, well
this time I went in and told myself that I could leave anytime I
wanted to and stayed until I felt myself starting to get ansy. I
started for the door but made myself stop and look at something
by the door and stayed their for about 10 mins more. I did this
at both stores! I use to just rush out of the store!! It let me know
that I don't have to leave but I can if I need to. my husband was their
with me but didn't have to leave with me, and I was proud that
I could do the last bit myself! Thanks for lisening.
