The Magic Ship Continues!

To Faith and all my friends, Tonight I get it. I have to take one day at a time. I am empowered (and exhausted from chasing all those Nascar Boys, especially MW in the #55 Toyota. He and his family were so nice when I met them before the race. Hope Raine got a picture.) But I digress.. Throwing away my stash was very strengthening. I will do this, one day at a time, until the days add up, and I will look back one day at my journey and then I will BE a non-smoker. Tomorrow is only day 7, but hell week will be over. Between this site, my medications, my sweetheart (the bass boat helped) all in all, it hasn't been as tough as I thought it would be. Maybe its the calm before the storm (did anyone check the weather on the way to Barbados? Do we need a meterologist?) but if the storm comes, I am ready, and I have you guys to lean on. Rum for all and all for rum! (especially the Capt. - this will be fun!!!) Keep the quit going! Are We All Addictive Personalities?

Faithfreedom, I definitely believe in addictive personalities, without a doubt. I have been calling myself that for 25 years. Nicotine is my big one, followed by caffeine. I always thought it was a much safer addiction than those of others in my own generation, my mother's generation, and her mother's generation. Almost all had their own personal addiction and I can see where it was passed from generation to generation like a snake swallowing its prey. I got lucky, or so I thought. All of the older generations are gone now, and my generation is also starting to pass. When did I become the older generation? I have a cousin who had a lung transplant and still smokes. My brother's addictions have caused him to drop out of sight once again...its been 3 years since I last knew he was alive. Addictive personalities? You bet! I will be one of the very few in the family to kick mine! Hope most are still around to see it! Keep the quit! Ordinary People Quit

Thanks for the great post, it certainly struck a chord with me tonight. I have re-read it several times. One day at a time for me. over 50 years of smoking

Hi Sunny! You are definitely in the right place. I smoked 2 ppd for over 40 years, like you, with no obvious health problems or smokers cough. The key word is obvious. Who knows now what I may have done to my body. I quit once about 5 years ago for 9 months, and I know why I started again. I gained weight also, but lost it when I started smoking again. My sweetheart said he doesn't care if I gain weight, stopping smoking is the most important thing and we can work on the weight thing later. This time, I quit for good, and so can you. I used the patch and zyban last time, and it worked well for me. I am trying Chantix this time, and it appears to work well also. Your reasons for quitting are all very valid. I can't say I originally agreed with all of them, because I really wasn't sure I was ready to quit until I found this site and started reading....and reading....and reading. When I experience "freedom", I will know that I have made it and kicked the demons a*s. Congratulations on your 24 days, don't stop...we're all pulling for you, even on the bad days! Freemom made it three weeks

Freemom: "Life can be like standing at the base of Mount Everest. You can face the challenge and choose to climb it, or you can walk around it. over 50 years of smoking

Welcome Catlover (i have 2) As for the zyban, when I used it with the patch I was taking 2 per day, and leaving the patch on at night. I eventually got very restless and jittery at bedtime, plus the wacky (not scary) dreams. (I was looking forward to them as free entertainment with this quit, but alas, only had a few). I didnt know if it was the zyban or wearing the patch overnight, so I quit the zyban. I then began to eat every thing that wasn't nailed down, and some that were. My doctor had said it would help with the munching...and obviously it did. I even tried half a pill twice a day, and still jittery and restless. This time with Chantix I have been restless the last couple nights, but I have been taking a Tylenol PM just before bed. Once I get to sleep I seem to be okay. Oh, in one of my dreams I kept finding myself with a snuffed out cigarette in my hand, wondering if I had been the one who smoked it. From reading the posts this seems to be a pretty common theme, and yes, when I awakened I was very glad that it was a dream. That's my two cents. Stay quit with us! The Magic Ship Continues!

Sssshhhhh, good morning all. I am whispering so as not to wake up the weekend party people. We sure had a good time, didn't we? The last few laps of the race were very exciting, especially the very last lap. Was hoping to see MM win one, but he got a very close second. I made it through my first entire weekend without smoking. I was dreading 2 days at home where most of my triggers are, but with the help of all of you, I didn't smoke. In fact, last night I took the stash from my car and tore them up, saying goodbye forever. Plus, H*ll week is almost over! It seems like I have been quitting forever already, and I am just waiting for it to feel "real". Have a nice Monday all, and I left some aspirin in the galley in case anyone has a teensy weensy headache. Me? I have to go take my little blue pill (no, not THAT blue pill, just my Chantix). The Magic Ship Continues!

Good morning all, I am so tired this morning...I don't know if it was the party last night or if it is just a withdrawal symptom. I also had a short wave of nausea this morning, nothing major, it just made me sit down for a minute or two. I am currently on a boring conference call and trying somewhat unsucessfully to keep my eyes open. My morning schedule was a bit off today since Sweetheart needed me to drive him to work. I'm sure you can all relate...having someone else home unexpectedly totally disrupts any semblance of routine. But I didn't smoke! What a party last night! My sides are still hurting from all of the laughing we did! CaptMM, thank you, thank you, thank you! What a wonderful thing you did for us. Much appreciated. How can we return the favor??? We'll come up with something, we are such an imaginative bunch. Faith! Hope you are feeling much better, and that everyone onboard will soon be back to 100% of their non-smoking selves! Conference call is wrapping up, guess I have to appear to be involved. I'll check in later about everyone's weekend plans, and where the Magicopter is headed. Happy Friday!!!
