MrMagic celebrates 3 weeks on Friday

Aha, Mr. Magic, you speak like a seasoned sailor. I, on the other hand, am an Air Force veteran. What job could there be for the likes of me? I salute you. Mom

Capt: I sense some hostility...I served from 68-71 so I sort of understand. Lackland became very familiar for nearly 2 years. I would enjoy hearing any stories you would like to tell. I haven't figured out the IM thing yet. I just can't seem to find it. Does anyone use it? Mom

Drinking more beer with quitting

Hi Dunedad and Everyone, I know I have the addicted personality, and I have known it for years. I figured smoking was the "safest" addiction I could have. What will it be next? Mmmm, I'm thinking chocolate. Although I enjoy throwing a few back now and then, it's the atmosphere that would trigger something. I could drink at home, but I am safer with chocolate. Many in my family, all generations, are/were alcohol dependent and all smoke(d) so I don't think I want to go there. Yes, chocolate will be fine. I'll let you know if it really causes pimples. I begin my journey....I think

FreshAir, please don't give up already. This is my third day and I felt just like you on day 1. It hasn't always been easy, and today is my worst day yet, but the support from this site and the ideas and examples they set for all of us newbies is invaluable. They are no better than us, so if they can do it, so can we. I am determined to experience the freedom they keep speaking about...right now I cannot imagine what it will be like, but I want to find out. Just keep pushing through this crave, then the next, and the next. Each one means one less to endure! Trying again.

Hi Tutti, Peg Bundy? OMG, I used to see myself at times. This third day was the roughest for me so far...i hit at least 8 of 10 trigger points today, and overcame each one, somehow. At one point I took a walk outside in the cold and went by the smokers station to try to grab some second-hand smoke. Fortunately nobody was out there smoking at the time. I also drank so much water that I didnt think I could make it home! BUT I DIDNT SMOKE. It's become a personal challenge kind of thing. You know, like the old man who runs a triathalon, the woman who swims the channel, all just to say "I did it". I am going to get there..just to say I did it. The freedom ----whatever that turns out to be---will be IT. Then I can choose whether or not to smoke. If freedom becomes my drug of choice, I think (hope) I will be smart enough to never pick it up again. That would disappoint me and too many others. Although if they told me I had a month to live, you might find me on the porch in a rocker with a carton or 5 for companionship. Looking forward to the end of this day. I had heard the 3's were bad, and I cant dispute that. How was your day? Each crave today was one less I have to go through on this trip...stay strong! MrMagic celebrates 3 weeks on Friday

Mr Magic... ...an inspiration and a great joy. Some of you folks have the most creative imaginations, and it has been a joy to read and follow along. I don't know all of your names, but I will continue reading for as long as you continue writing. Congratulations on 3 weeks. I have heard the 3's are the worst, and I won't dispute that. I hate to admit that I did find 2 smokes that my sweetheart didn't destroy for me...and they are stashed for a "just in case". It's strengthens me to know they are there and I am not touching them. Did you keep a secret stash? and how long until you destroyed it? Is this normal? Please, all of you, keep writing! You are all a great source of strength and determination. Write On! New med is a lifesaver....

Hi Sher, Congratulations on your two day (almost 3) quit! I am also taking Chantix and I am on my second quit day. I thought the first day (2/14) would be excruciating, but it wasn't that bad (even tho' I was working from home due to bad weather). Today I have managed to keep busy, and rarely have I noticed a real "urge" for a cig, rather I am aware of the moments when I would normally go for a smoke. I didn't notice a real desire to cut down during the initial week of Chantix, but so far, it hasn't been as bad as I had feared. I don't want to let go of the fear just in case it gets bad as I progress... so far this is just too easy so I know the hard times are probably ahead. I haven't had any side effects from the Chantix, except for some wild dreams (I had a tour of the White House with Barbara Bush!). I have an excedrin PM handy in case I awaken and can't get back to sleep...I don't want to risk a sleeping pill with only a few hours left to sleep. Haven't needed one yet. I keep telling myself "You don't NEED a cigarette, you just WANT one". That has been working for me. I am determined to quit, and beat the ol' Nicodemon into submission. Good luck to you! Keep the quit! Did you read the news today??

Another reason to quit... Since so many of us are quitting, the tax revenue from cigarettes that the states receive is decreasing more than expected as states increase the no smoking bans in public places. They may have to increase the cigarette tax to get their revenue back. Gee, can we increase the price per pk on our quit meters? I'd be saving a lot more money and my big reward would come even more quickly! Besides which, I pay enough taxes! Keep the quit going....
