ok I would do roll call, but I think my role is fairly obvious. Wanted to update you all on the allergist visit...I'll take allergies for $200 Alex. "Cockroaches and grass" --What are the only 2 things Nurse 29 is NOT allergic to? DING DING DING I'm allergic to pretty much everything. I'm an excellent candidate for allergy shots. However, because I'm so allergic to everything, I'll need 2 separate shots at a time. I'm also getting a couple inhalers, and some other stuff. He suggested an air cleaner with HEPA filter, mattress covers and what not. Hubby really should be cleaning the cat litter and vacuuming...often. So, I was a bit overwhelmed by all the information I was given yesterday. Maybe I really should move to the beach! Anyway, so here's my outlook on the whole thing...I felt like a hypocrite making doctor's appointments for these things while I was smoking. Like I should take care of myself before letting a doctor fix what's truly wrong with me. So, by making this appointment, I was rewarding myself for quitting smoking. At the same time, I'm giving myself the motivation to stay quit. So, there's my story just so all of you know. Hope everyone is enjoying the cruise!!! I'll check in again soon... ~Nursey My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 78 Amount Saved: $22.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 51 Seconds: 54

Good day everybody! I know most of you are in your Chantix-fueled happy dreamlands, but that's when nurses do the most work. I'm just doing a quick rounds to make sure everyone is ok, and to make sure that no one is smoking out their windows! Indeed, I will be working 4 12-hour nights in a row, but usually I can find a little down time to read and post during my shift. I would like to direct everyone's attention to the post called "Ode to CallMeMomMom", just so she can feel like princess for a day (This is what sleepy nurses do...wax sentimental). Just as a personal update, I wanted to tell you all about my Friday. I had lunch with a girlfriend to celebrate her birthday (30th!), and throughout our 2-hour affair, she must have smoked at least 6-7 cigarettes. Thought about it, but thought better about it. Then, I met up with MomMom's 'sweetheart' at the local--smoking allowed--watering hole. As I tossed back a few cold ones with the old man, I did not have an urge to smoke. Not one. Later on in the evening, the girls and my hubby and I went to a club in the city--a city where all clubs are now smoke-free. I proceeded to toss back a few more cold ones without an urge to go outside and freeze my derriere off (though my husband went with a couple of the other girls a few times). Now, anyone who has fought the battle knows that the alcohol/nicotine connection is probably one of the toughest to break. However, I feel I have successfully broken it! This is especially significant to me, since I do like to go out once or twice a week to blow off steam with a couple beers. I now know that I can do it and fight the temptation to smoke. Of course, as a newlywed, there's always the possibility that the drinking will have to come to an end any day too... ;p Anyway, all you NASCAR fans enjoy the race today, this nurse will be snoozing in her cabin...and please do not disturb or I will get really grouchy LOL Take it easy, all! ~Nursey My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 47 Amount Saved: $13.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 23 Seconds: 20

Hey everyone, since it looks like MomMom didn't tell you all yet, I get to spread the good news!!! My husband has joined the site!!! His intro post is under the name breakite8onbreak, however, he then changed it (with no prodding from me) (I dabble in sarcasm) to Nurse29Husband. Feel free to say hello to him and send good wishes his way...he seems to need the support more than I. Thanks!! ~Nursey My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 62 Amount Saved: $18 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 5 Seconds: 30

Good morning everyone! (for a little while longer anyway) I'm afraid this nurse won't be much of a help today...also feeling under the weather. I have an appointment with an allergist on Monday. It will be great to find out what the heck I'm allergic to and get treatment for it! No antihistamines allowed in the meantime though...means one miserable nurse. Phil, Gertrude Hawk is, like, the best chocolatier around! Guess maybe she's regional? Hope you all have fun today, I'm going to stay in my room and try to sleep a lot because I'm miserable :( Keep it safe so no one needs me! ~Nursey My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 21 Amount Saved: $4.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 2 Mins: 29 Seconds: 5

Sounds like there's a serious need for an in-house health professional! Guess MomMom had some good timing, getting that chopper to me when she did. I'll be here to help with the bumps and bruises--such as occur when golfing, watching NASCAR races and the like. I'll even clean up vomit if I have to (long as you don't do it on me!!). My suggestion to both is to drink plenty of clear fluids (water, hot tea with honey...NO MILK!), and sleep! You need to be well-rested because you sure don't want to miss the duet MomMom and I have planned! Tell them all about it, Mom! By the way, what's a girl gotta do to get some Gertrude Hawks and a Chardonnay?? Hello everyone! Faith, I know that medications such as Prozac can take up to 6 weeks for you to feel better, so stick with it! Mom, I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you tonight. I'm glad you made it through it, I knew it would be a tough one for you. As for me, I'm still smoke-free. My goodness, did I officially make it through hell week?!?! I've started a couple new meds that seem to be interfering with my ability to sleep...these late-night wake-ups used to be a prime opportunity for me to sit by the window, freeze my butt off and smoke. No more! I'm definitely a NOPE-r now. Hubby apparently doesn't have the willpower his wife does. I keep telling him I'm trying to lead by example, but he's not following my example. He smoked again at pool last night, and quite honestly, I'm very frustrated about it. He says that as soon as he asks one of our friends for a cigarette I should be supportive and say "come on, honey, you don't need that...". He's probably right. Instead, when he asks, I shoot him a look and then turn my back to him, and yell at him later. He keeps saying if it were easy then more people would quit. At the same time I both understand what he's saying, but get so angry because I feel like he's hiding behind excuses. Well anyway, so he now has a Wellbutrin prescription (thanks to me--and yes, he asked me for it) and he swears he's going to start it today. I told him to get on this site more, and read, and post, but he doesn't. I don't really mean to post all of our personal business here. And he's right, I should be more supportive, but I have a hard enough time worrying about my own quit...I can't be his quit-keeper too. I've reminded him that he keeps putting himself through withdrawal over and over every time he smokes again, but that doesn't seem to phase him. It's hard for me to feel happy right now and proud of myself when I can't seem to help my husband stay quit with me! But I know I won't smoke again, so don't you worry about me...just pray I don't kill him should he smoke again! Uh, is there a casino on this here ship? I know my husband would love to host a Texas Hold 'Em tournament!! I believe my mother meant to say "hoochie mama". What she actually wrote conjures up a completely different (and unfavorable!) mental picture. Apparently I'm now also an interpreter... Everything is good here, hubby and I are getting geared up for the move! I finished 4 12-hour nights in a row and I didn't kill anybody...literally OR figuratively! I only had a couple times when I got overwhelmed and thought "I can't believe I'm not going to smoke for the rest of my life!" and craved. But, being a nurse, I get really busy and talk myself through one task, then the next, then the next. I only used rubber-band aversion therapy and chewing gum for the first week. Once I slipped last week, I came back with none of that stuff. I think tonight will be another big test for both of us...when we go out to our pool league. I feel ok about it, but just in case I bought a new kind of gum (Ice breakers sour fruits! Can't wait to try it!). So don't worry about me, but send all your positive energy hubby's way! He's gonna need it! ~Nursey (aka Carolyn) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 97 Amount Saved: $27 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 3 Seconds: 26
