Tomorrow Is Day 1

Oh Serenity, You must be my guardian angel. A warm bubble bath is exactly what I need! Thank you so much for the suggestion. A warm bath, my cozy jammies, my blankie, and my Chantix dreams. A perfect ending to my first difficult day as a non-smoker. Your name says it all! Thanks again! MomMom PS I can't eat another bite! Finally!

Tomorrow Is Day 1

Hi All! So..last night I smoked 2 of the 4, and left the other 2 for my Sweetheart to throw away for me so I wouldn't have them. This morning is a little rough...our office is closed so I am working from home. MAJOR TRIGGER! I was prepared for evenings at home, but the whole darn day??? on day 1??? I have eaten all of the chocolate in the house, and have cleaned most of the downstairs already (in between reading posts, of course). I have no desire to go buy a pack, and the roads are too bad even if I wanted to. So I eat, clean, eat, read, eat, work, eat, clean, eat, read, and on and on. Thanks for checking on me. I'll be here all day. Glad to meet you folks!

Good Morning Denny! Welcome! It seems we have many of the same triggers...as I am sure many smokers do. Today is my quit day, and I really expected this first morning was going to be hard! I won't say it's easy, but I am managing to stay ahead of the urge. Whenever the urge gets real strong, I start cleaning something until it passes. May have the whole house cleaned by lunch time, but I am not smoking. Boredom is a major trigger for me also. Good luck with the wellbutrin...I did that and the patch a few years ago. It worked pretty well, I was just stupid and caved after 9 months. I had given up the wellbutrin first...and then I ate everything that did't bite me first. I am trying Chantix this time. So far, so good. Keep reading until your quit date. There were a few times when I was going to postpone my quit date, but reading everyone's postings kept me on track. You can do it! Tomorrow Is Day 1

And I don't know how to feel. I am excited that I will start a new chapter in my life. I have a lot of support at work, but not so much at home (non-smoking sweetheart = "what's the big deal? just stop!"). And I have a pack in the kitchen with 4 cigs left... I just completed my first week on Chantix. No real side effects except for the dreams...what a hoot! If this is a window into my psyche, I need a shrink (or 2). LOL. Tomorrow I start the little blue pills to work on my brain while I work on the habit! And I have a pack in the kitchen with 4 cancer sticks left... I have been reading all of the posts for the past couple of weeks. I have used all of the tools on the site, have my workbook, my Sweetheart took all of the ashtrays and did something with them except for one, because I still have a pack in the kitchen with 4 smelly butts calling my name... A week ago I couldn't wait for this day to get here. I took the advice of many on here and let the Chantix do its thing, and I did cut back by over half without really trying, but tonight there is a pack in the kitchen with 4 bullets with my name on them, begging... I don't want to smoke that last cigarette, but I want to smoke that last cigarette...to realize that it is the last one...EVER! N.O.P.E. I am so conflicted tonight, but determined to quit tomorrow. Thanks for letting me ramble. You guys are so awesome! MomMom

The Magic Ship Continues!

Hey shipmates, I am only on my 4th day, but going (pretty) strong. A few rough moments, but got through them. Good news today, my daughter and son-in-law are trying to quit with me (and they are going cold turkey), and my other daughter is thinking about it. Could it be that Mom has more influence than was previously agreed upon? Can't wait to reach the milestones you all have behind you. Blaze that trail, I'm coming along... Oh, forgot to tell you, my reward? Sweetheart bought me a new bass boat. How cool is that? I certainly won't be smoking aboard this one! I'll have some pinot grigio if you have some aboard, and pass the chocolate, please. Thanks all! I did it. I really did it! I just have to share.

Good job! I hope I can be as strong...that would be a major trigger for me too! You did it! Stay strong! First day in 8 years I have not smoked!!!

KMarie, keep up the good work! Aunt Deb has been an inspiration for me, and for others. I took her granola bar suggestion...so far, no sick! Was expecting day 3 to be bad and then figured I wouldn't look for trouble, I would let it find me. It did! Twice! I went so far as to take a walk to the smoking area just for some second-hand smoke! (I still like the smell of a cigarette, is that normal?) Nobody was there, so I got a short walk in the frigid air. I did that the second time, too, and surprise? it worked! It was gone by the time I was back to my desk. Saturday at home is a little harder..Sweetheart took me to lunch at our favorite spot, and gave me a little wink when I said "Non-smoking section, please". Then he found out you can see the TV better from the smoking section. LOL. He couldn't win that one! This is a journey...and I am not the only one learning about "how to be a non-smoker", Sweetheart is learning "OMG, she is different". I hope I like her when I get to know her. Wouldn't that be a kick in the BUTT. LOL, I crack me up. Oh, I forgot, my younger daughter and her husband are trying to quit with me. They are going cold turkey, and it's tough. My older daughter is thinking about it. Who knew Mom could be an inspiration to adult children? Was that in the Parenthood book? Stay quit, KMarie. I still have a secret stash of 2 smokes hidden in my car...I hope in a few days I will be able to get rid of those, too. I'm thinking that's my reward on day 7...a little tribute to the dead. They quit...

UFO, congratulations on a lifetime quit. There is so much inspiration at this site, it's unbelievable. It's nice to see that the successful ones still pop back in to help us newbies. My daughter and son-in-law are trying to quit cold turkey along with me. (They are cold turkey, not me, i know that wouldn't work for me). My older daughter is thinking about it. I didn't know I could actually have influence on them at our ages! Was that in the parenting book? Congratulations. The support is here for those who need it. The Magic Ship Continues!

I have to tell you a funny story... Sweetheart took me to lunch today to celebrate my quit (he is a non-smoker and trying very hard to be supportive). He took me to our favorite little spot. This time, I said "Non-smoking, please", and he gave me a little wink! He was so proud.....until..... ....he found out you can see the TV better from the smoking section. LOL! What did I learn? I can have a drink (or 3) and still not smoke! NOPE! Oh, I'm new and still learning my way around the ship. Any recommendations on where to get a new bikini? Thanks everyone!
