Thank you Denise. You're right. I'm glad you posted this. Those last 3 cigarettes need to go in the garbage. I'ld like to make today the quit date. I'll start reading the coping strategies next.
Thanks you SO much for your reply. I feel better already.
One question for anyone, I tried to download the ticker you have with the data of days smoke free, etc. but I've obviously done something incorrectly?
Many thanks!
Hi Phil! Thank you! Nice to hear from your side of the pond! 50 years. You should be so proud of yourself.
Ok, deal. Today is my quit date. Done deal. I'll be back for more support and give it where I can!
I'm so grateful to have found this site.
Cheers!
I realized that those who replied to my introduction last night that a drag here and there (or as per yesterday 3.5 cigs), that I was only prolonging the agony. I spent another 2 hours this morning completing the tools on this site and cried throughout the whole process with my 4 year old sitting next to me. I told her I'm sick (I am, I'm addicted).
I'm no longer crying. My coping techniques for today are deep breathing, imagining attending my child's college graduation (when I'll be in my 60's), living a smoke free life after smoking for 30 years and being proud of kicking this monkey.
I've been lurking too and wow, those of you who have month's and years under your belt still have cravings? I'll do some more research on addiction. I read about Phil and the clinic (I think it was Phil). Maybe a stop smoking support group, like AA, is another coping technique that would help my situation. I do have my husband, who is also quitting with me for support.
Thanks for listening to my ramblings. Any time I spend reading and writing is more time spent not smoking.
Marie

Congratulations and keep it up.
I'm on 8 hours smoke free and Chantix and inspired by anyone who has gone 24 hours.

I agree, what a visual post.
My mind is telling me that as soon as I leave here and move on to my day, I'll reward myself with a couple of drags. Someone I'm going to make it through this 24 hours.
Great thread.

Thanks Jan and Lynn too. I did some more of the tools this site provides and cried throughout the process.
That was an hour of crying. My daughter is next to me and I told her I'm sick (I am). I feel like I am losing my best friend but my mental vision is to see her graduate college (I'll be in my 60's). My Aunt in Ireland passed away last year from lung cancer, my Dad 2 years ago from Colon Cancer, my sister in law last year (at 24) from sarcoma, my Father in Law from lung cancer. At Christmas I lost two friends, ages 45 and 40 from heart attack and breast cancer. There is all this death I've been dealing with for a couple of years and my brother who died on Christmas Eve 7 years ago from suicide. I'm feeling quite depressed right now but crying is better than smoking I guess. I come from an addictive family, but cigarettes are my only real addiciton, unlike gambling, drinking as some of my family suffers from.
Thanks again.
Marie
