HI Freedomforme! Welcome to SSC! I'm Jan and I've tried quitting many times. I've smoked for 25 years, a pack a day. This time I'm trying Zyban. I made the mistake of quitting the same day as I started the Zyban. Didn't work. I hear Chantix works the same way, and I've heard nothing bad about Chantix. Make that decision to give those final cigs the heave ho. Keep posting here as well! Good to have you here, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Well done mate Proud of you Phil x (Can you remember what a smoke fee kiss tastes like) Over the Xmas period I was kissed by a couple of ladies who smelled like ashtrays and to think I was like that last year! It's a said story you tell & i almost cry reading your posts... you sound so said ! But you must get it out of your head, smokes are not your best friend cos they can kill you!. Smoking is & always will be nicotine dependancy or addiction to nicotine, you should know this. Marie, you know the old saying 'Life must goes on', well it must & it does ! Just imagine yourself in the not to distant future 'smokefree', a better quality of life for yourself & especially your daughter - don't you agree ! I tell you now lies, as a non-smoker you don't want a cigarette every 20 minutes. As smokers we planned our day around smoking cos we you know we constantly thought of cigarettes, we would have prefer if we could smoke one cigarette after another, if we could. The only reason we didn't is becuase we couldn't afford to - now that is one hell of an addiction ! Think ahead & live for your daughter & your future, you can learn from the past & you will always remember it, but it is to be the past. please cheer up Marie. This quit thing is only temporary.. i know evertyone keeps saying it, but things do get better. Hi there freedomforme, I honestly feel your pain ! The first thing i noticed reading your post is the fact you know that you are fighting an addiction to nicotine - this is really, really good. The second thing is - It's truely amazing that you've managed to 'cut down' so much, unfortunately though & listen to me very carefully here.... By cutting down you are actually extending the nicotine withdrawl you're experiencing, over & over again. Each puff of a cigarette puts nicotine back into your system & each time you put out that cigarette you go into nicotine withdrawl, you get my drift ?. You are basically running a marathon over & over again & the fact you've managed this truely amazes me.. i personally couldn't have done this it would have done me in ! Forgive me if i'm wrong as i'm not familiar with this 'chantix' method but in a nutshell.... As soon as you stop smoking cigarettes the easier it will be cos you will no longer be putting yourself through nicotine withdrawl. Yes this is a fantastic site, We are all here for the same reason to quit & to stay quit, whatever it takes - we are all here to help each other. You are in a lucky situation in that both you & your husband are stopping together, you can 'bounce off' each other so to speak. well done so far !
