I don't think you can get "rid" of the cravings, but I think you can get "through" them. During my first few days frequently it was a matter of just getting through the next hour without giving in.
I know how difficult it is for you right now and it seems like smoking will end your suffering. But the only way to truly feel good again is not to smoke. Do whatever you have to do not to smoke and get through these withdrawal days -- go down the list of everything people have suggested here and whatever you think could get you through. And if those don't work, start at the top and go down the list again.
You can do it. Hang in there!

Hi Marie --
And welcome. I am also on chantix and it's working for me -- watch out for the upset stomach about 20 min after taking -- always take with food! I didn't even make it through a whole first week of smoking while on chantix, it cut down the cravings so much for me. Hope it works well for you also.
Allen Carr's book has also really helped me to change my thinking -- and I think that's been the most important thing for me so far. Truly making a deicision to stop once and for all.
When you're having a bad time, come here and post. The people are knowlegable and supportive.

That's been my tough time too. I've been trying to change my routine and also brush my teeth and start chewing gum after I get up to give my mouth something to do.
I've also just made some peace with the fact that -- ok, mornings are going to be my tough times. Other people have a tough go of it at work or after a meal, but for me it's going to be mornings. Thankfully, mornings eventually become afternoons. And if I just don't smoke, some morning (I don't know which one) I'm going to wake up and not crave a cigarette.
I know you're in the worst of it now -- but it will get better. Hang in there. You can do it.

Greetings from another 42-yr-old Lori who is also using chantix as a tool for quitting. Those first few days are really tough, there's no getting around that.
But you can do it and as others have said, it really does get better.

Good morning everyone --
I'm feeling especially proud of my quit today. It is so true that if you just hold on, the days start adding up. The calendar didn't seem to move at first, but soon I'll be at the 30 day mark! And then watch me go...
Ladbugg - thanks for starting the parade. Your stats are a true inspiration!

Don't worry too much at this point about how you're going to deal with driving in the car, etc. That's probably going to be a trigger for you, but don't overwhelm yourself. Give the chantix a chance to do its job. I felt differently after several days on it. It's just a tool and it won't do all of the work for you, but it can help tremendously. At this point just take it, stay firm to your quit date and the few days before you quit -- then start making firm plans about coping mechanisms in the car, etc.
Congratulations on taking that first step. Stick with it!

Welcome and congratulations on 3 smoke-free days. That's terrific. Just try and get through one day and soon those smoke-free days will start to add up.
Reading Allen Carr's book has been extremely helpful for me. Here's the link if you'd like to read it.

Keep posting and reading. It really helps.
