The Q and A Game

A-27 For me it has not been a question of "could I" or "couldn't I" quit. It has been a matter of making a decision that smoking is no longer an option for me. I don't think I have ever truly made that decision in earlier quits. I would always "try", which gave me a subtle message that I might not make it. (of course I'm still early in the quit...) Q-28 What method did you use to quit? (cold turkey, NRT, meds) Lori My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 110 Amount Saved: $22.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 2 Seconds: 32

Thursday Night Bonfire!!!

Hi everybody -- No s'mores for me as my pants have been feeling a little snug the last few days. I can't tell you how much I HATE having to deal with any extra pounds along with the struggle involved in not smoking. I've been working out and haven't gone crazy with food so it's frustrating and feels unfair! (how's that for whining) My 2nd non-smoking week has been surprisingly more difficult than the 1st. There have been a few craves that have really knocked me up side the head. And the worst craves have been in the morning - I've been "missing" having my smokes on the way into work. I'm still early in the quit, so mostly I feel like I'll never feel good ever again. So that's my vent to add to the Thursday night bonfire. Recommit Now

Feeling the need to recommit today. I will NOT smoke today and that is all I have to worry about -- today. Going to let tomorrow take care of itself. I'm so scared

KT -- Each of us are using different ways to quit and stay that way. I only quit a couple of weeks ago and have been reading everything I can find --> the material on this site and others, along with Allen Carr's book. I have been using Chantix and believe it has helped me significantly. It's certainly not a magic pill, but it has lessened the enormity my cravings, especially during those first few difficult days. There are side-effects, but I believe the positives outweigh the negatives. I know it may be a long time before my life feels "normal" without the smokes. But finally making a decision to deal with the addiction and take my life back feels good. You can do it! Develop a plan for your quit and take advantage of the great resources and people that are here to support you. Introductions-Planning my quit and will be needing some support!

It works however you would like it to and whatever way is most helpful to you quitting. I think of this place as --> education and support. Read everything you can and then post. Post about how you're doing. Post your recommittment for a day or a weekend to stay smoke-free. But ESPECIALLY post when you're about to break-down and give up and have a cigarette. I have especially found it helpful to read comments and stories from people who are further down the road than I am -- how they are feeling at 30 days...75 days...100 days. It's extremely encouraging to hear from people who have stuck with it and the changes they are experiencing in their lives. I need to read the postings that say it does get better -- sometimes I need to read those postings over and over!! Most likely if there's something that you're dealing with or have a question about, there's someone here who has already addressed that situation in their own lives. You'll find this a valuable and supportive resource if you use it. Welcome! Morning Cravings

Hi everybody - I just wanted to get this problem out there in the hopes that venting might take some of the struggle away. I'm having a really tough time with mornings. I want a cigarette badly every morning. I know it's not true, but I keep thinking that a cigarette would wake me up -- if I could just have a smoke then my day will be so much easier - and don't even talk to me about the lack of a smoke with my morning coffee!! It's not as hard later in the day, but each morning I'm finding myself feeling really deprived, irritated and just down right mad that I can't have this one thing that I really want! By about noon I'm ok and that huge feeling of deprivation is gone, but the mornings are bad. And to top it off - I already go to the gym and work out every morning. I was one of those really brilliant people who would work out and still smoke, as crazy as that sounds. So the exercise thing is already covered. I don't think I'm in real danger of having one, but that black feeling every morning is starting to get me down. Anyone else have this problem? Morning Cravings

Thanks for the support and advice everybody. I think part of the problem is that because my quit has been going so well up to this point, that these big cravings have been knocking me up side the head each morning. I am grateful that this feeling doesn't last all day. Driving in my car is proving to be my biggest trigger so far. Sure wish I had the option of taking the bus for awhile!
