Chantix users - how did you feel?

Good morning everybody - Still hanging on into day 3. Had some bigger cravings yesterday, but not too many so far this morning. Mostly, I feel sick - sick from the withdrawal and sick from the Chantix. I feel like a drug addict detoxing...maybe because I'm an addict and I'm detoxing from a drug! The side-effects from the Chantix have been fairly intense - being tired, spacey, lethargic and having an upset stomach a good amount of the time. But even with the side-effects, I can tell that the Chantix is diminishing my cravings. It's absolutely worth it. And since my stomach has felt funny, I'm not overeating and replacing cigs with food, so no worries about weight gain so far! Hope everyone has a good smoke-free day. New chantix quitters

Hi everyone -- I thought I'd start a new thread for those of us who are newly quit using Chantix. I am on day 4 of the quit and have been on Chantix for 8 days. I was supposed to quit on the 7th day, but decided to start the quit a little early. I am finally beginning to feel more human today. Between the Chantix and the nicotine withdrawal, I was stuck in a terrible fog for several days - it was pretty difficult to function adequately. But today there seems to be a little more clarity, so I am grateful -and am happy I have stuck it out. Something feels very different about this quit. I think I'm finally really ready to be done. It helps so much to be able to come here and read how this process has been for other people. New chantix quitters

Hi Margo - Congratulations on your 3 weeks. That is fantastic! I am sure that some of the people who have more time in will have some good advice or personal experiences to share with you. It seems from what I've read that going off Chantix early is fairly common. I know for myself, that I am going to be on this awhile. I don't know if that will be 6 months or 1 month, but I'm just playing it by ear. Even though the side-effects have been difficult, I have found it to be such a beneficial tool that I will take the benefits over the disadvantages for now. After 20+ years of smoking, I feel like I'm fighting for my life and I will use whatever tool I can to help me for as long as it takes. I hope that everyone has made it through the weekend without too much difficulty. LORI has 1 week!

Thanks everybody. It feels good to have other people in my corner - especially those who have already been there and made it through those bad initial days and months. I appreciate the support! Being Tested

Dealing with additional stress today. Since I put down the smokes, I feel like Murphy has been camping out in my world. Had a relationship end during hell week and started heck week by getting into an accident this morning. Thankfully noone was hurt and we are all insured. Shaking after the crash, how natural would it have been for me to light up. Or what a great reason it would have given me to run to the store and buy some. Certainly being in an accident gives me enough of an excuse to smoke, right? But I'm not going to do it. Able to get the car home and I immediately head here to post. I'm so thankful to have this place to come to and know that these thoughts will be read by those who understand. I'm not sure why things have been more difficult since I quit smoking. I guess that's just life. But even through the additional stress, I have known that smoking would really not help make anything better. Just going to not smoke today and hope that tomorrow is a little better. Being Tested

Thanks for the support, everybody. It sure feels good to have people come running when you need a hand up. I spent a little time at home and read some Allen Carr about the "illusion" that smoking makes us feel better. Then I decided to go ahead and come to work and get on with the day. Back on the horse, shaking off the darkness and getting back in the game. Cars will get fixed, relationships come and go. Non-smoking people get through this stuff all the time and are able to survive. And if my insurance goes up, then it goes up. Thankfully, I already know how to pay for any possible increase -- all the money that I'm saving by not buying cigarettes!! (not always easy to find the bright side...but I'm workin' on it) Lori My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 90 Amount Saved: $18.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 21 Mins: 47 Seconds: 19

Remember Me

Tony -- You've got 5 days on me. So you're looking great from my perspective! I know that for me, exercise is huge. Strengthens the body, but also clears out some of those nasty cobwebs in my head. Day 3!!!!

Xena -- You're almost through the worst physical part of it at the 72 hours, so as bad as you feel - this is not something you want to keep having to put yourself through again and again. It's torture to keep having to relive the first couple of days. What has been helping me is to really change my thinking. What I am figuring out for sure now is that smoking will not make me feel better - the only way to feel better is not to smoke. All smoking does is set me up for the next withdrawal and then I'll have to take another "dose" to make the withdrawal go away. Don't give in. You can overcome this! We all can.
