For awhile there were several informative ads on t.v. about depression. Wonder where they went? Haven't seen them for awhile. Even though there certainly needs more funding and education for depression, I think it is out more than it used to be. Some doctors have more empathy and good bedside manner than others and really try to figure things out before prescribing meds, some just don't want to know, it's not their field. Either way when referred to a specialist in depression the wait for a consultation is usually way too long.
Believe it or not, two cats who cross my backyard and sit in the circular rose garden with the birdbath in the middle. I smile because I have two dogs and a ferret buried there. I had these two dogs at the same time (one died six months before the other) and they used to bark at the cats crossing at the back. They never hurt them, but used to touch nose to nose, if the cat let them. Usually it was the cat who would suddenly spit and rear and take off. I try and think that the cats are visiting them. Hint: If the cats start using the garden as a bathroom, I sprinkle coffee grounds on the earth and they hate to lick that off their paws, so avoid it.
Hello Jordan m: Welcome to this site. Have you ever tried Cognitive Behavioural Therapy? That's what is offered here, the CBT prgram and it is well known fact that it is one of the best therapies for anxiety/panic disorders. I hope you will do this program. It's a lot to learn but you learn at your own pace and the health educators are there to help you every step of the way. Plus, you can post here as often as you wish and vent, cry, get angry, whatever you are feeling. This is a safe place to do it. People here are in various stages of the program, healing. If you read the posts, past and present you will get a good sense of what's going on.
I have had just about every symptom you have described and am now panic free so yes, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I still get symptoms, ups and downs, but no more panic attacks. Ask as many questions as you want, someone will respond. Keep posting and checking back. This is a friendly site and lots of supporters. Good luck.
Hi Red: I used to feel nervous too going to the cash and sometimes waited until no one else was there. However, in a busy store you can't always do that. Another thing that bothered me was buying new things I didn't know much about and hoping I had the right ones. It's easy to get flustered then. When waiting with all the commotion around, I would focus on any art work hanging on the walls, posters, etc. I would try and figure out the colour of the walls, what do they use for window dressing. Things like that. Another way to keep things straight in the confusion of the moment, was to have a pen handy so I could cross off my list the items I purchased. Maybe you could do that if the cashier waits on someone else while serving you. It was easier to see if I missed anything. Hope some of these ideas are helpful to you. Good luck tomorrow if you go back to the store.
Good going anerol! Even though you may be physically tired out from the effort, congratulations! aren't you glad you went and didn't give in to the negative vibes. way to go! don't forget your reward.
Hello jaii: Glad to hear from you and some things are getting better for you. It sounds like anticipatory anxiety before the event. I still get that once in awhile. I will share with you what I do. Perhaps you can try it too. Before a big event, meeting, speech, I will do my relaxation, breathing and visualization exercises every day, no excuses. In visualization, I rehearse in my mind what I have to do, how I am going to do it and also imagine the success at the end. It's a kind of preparation before the event. (Athletes use these techniques before they compete). If it's a really "big" occasion, I will do the relaxation and breathing exercises at home just before leaving. If I feel anxious at the event, I can excuse myself to go to the ladies' room and take a break. I can wash my hands, cold water on the inside of the wrists helps to slow down the heart rate (some animals cool themselves in the river after a big fight, lots of adrenaline rushing there) have a glass of water. At the same time I can give myself positive reaffirmations - such as "I know I am o.k. and I will get through this", or "I'm here and I feel just fine, everything is going to be o.k.". Those positive statements are helpful in stopping the negative thoughts. Another thing I try and remember is that other people there may be just as nervous but you don't know it. hope this gives you some ideas to work with....good luck and keep posting.
Hi CoriJ: Good for your bf, he sounds like he really cares about you and tuned in. I know it's a bit scary to go for your first visit, but I sure hope you go to just try it out if nothing else. Is it one-on-one or group?
Family secrets, sweeping things under the carpet, it stays in the family, protect the family name, etc. all these things I have heard. The counselor is not there to judge, but to help you. If you feel uncomfortable at first, take it slow and easy until you feel you can trust the counselor. You can mention all your fears re: how you feel about disclosing. It's like going to the doctor for a physcial, they've seen lots of patients, nothing surprises them too much. And they are confidential. Wishing you the best taking that first step....good luck. Let us know how it goes.
D: The funny thing is I am very sensitive to telling others this sort of thing and make a conscious effort not to do it. So, I want to ease up on myself and treat myself with respect too.
On another note: are those muskrats in your photo? are they on your property? Hope you post some more animals, I like that.
My clay work is coming along very nicely. My hands are actually starting to do what I want and not so clumsy. I am trying to keep a balance and take breaks as I am enjoying it so much more now and hate to stop. I was out and about this wknd. and felt o.k. except one time I got rubbery legs and felt quite tired out, but pressure not too bad. Hope you are coming along too.
Another fact I found out was to place the door of the toad house facing south, and to keep a saucer-type dish with water not more than an inch, close by for the toad.
Hi shadowkins: Last summer I was told at the hospital that when I was in a lot of pain, my BP went up and then of course, my anxiety went up. So there might be a connection to pain and some anxiety when your hip acts up. Sometimes if I've had a bad day, the next morning I might question what this day will be like and think negative thoughts and that may bring on anxiety to know I will face the same difficulties. This is where positive thinking and smiling helps, and relaxation exercises. I've heard lots of body stretching in the morning when you get out of bed is supposed to start the day right.
