Myth or Fact

It was difficult for me to post at first - I still wonder sometimes if I say too much.  I'm not used to opening up.  However, I would like to tell everyone who would like to post that this experience has helped me by not bottling up so much.  It's really nice to get some things off your chest and know that those here, this support group, understands and does care.

Your top 3 - Good Deeds

1. helping federal system parolees re-enter society.  They often feel shunned or looked down upon.  Depending on how long they have been incarcerated, they have lots to catch up to when they get out usually to a half-way house.  Some don't even know how to use a bank card yet.
2. walking dogs at the pound
3. helping my friend who had cancer - going to treatments, calling her every day just to say hi.

Accomplishments and other Postive Things

Davit:  Are cottonwoods the ones which have pussywillows in the spring?
I did a bit of clay work (5 toad houses are being fired at the college where my friend goes - but she can't sneak any more in - lol). Then I have to decide if I want to glaze or not. I have made 10 so far.  Had to quit when I felt sick again.  Anyway, nevermind that.  Worked outside yesterday a wee bit but didn't want to overdo.  Proud of myself that as soon as I felt tired, I did quit and went inside.  Doing lots of reading and thinking.  I need to get a new digital camera and would like to post a photo of one of my t.houses.  I enjoy everyone's photos.

Accomplishments and other Postive Things

I have a book on N. American trees, will look up black poplars.  I feel agitated today and don't know why.  BP is o.k.  Haven't done a thing yet and it is 11:00 a.m.  I did get a couple of phone calls and that waylaid me.  Not sure what to do with myself, don't feel like doing clay work but will probably have a look and tweak the last two.  Maybe I'll just read today.  I am proud of myself (since this is accomplishments and positive things column) that I was able to do organizing of fundraising  all on the telephone only last wk. and finished this wk.  I will not be working it, or attending.  So I'm proud and satisfied that I could still contribute and still take care of myself.  Slowly learning.

I'm doing it.

CoriJ:  Lucky you!  My son is doing the Juan de Fuca trail late June.  Wish I could go too.  Love camping and hiking and canoeing.  So healing and makes you feels so glad to be alive, the way it is supposed to be.  Have lots of fun.

Accomplishments and other Postive Things

Oh my gosh - that might be it!  Yesterday was beautiful and sunny.  Today it is dull and overcast.  I do feel like curling up and reading a book.  And it is true that in the spring I feel agitated and restless - so much to do sort of feeling.  I must have forgotten these delicate balances of nature and man/animals.  Davit, how did you get so smart?  Also, I'm beginning to get back to my feelings.  How long have I been numb or is it that I am sensitve again?  don't know yet.
Wanted to write that my daughter is coming for dinner on Sunday so will photograph some toadhouses.  My digital camera isn't working. I still don't have the fired houses back, but I can still post these here - might be a bit funny colour though as the clay dries, but you'll get the idea.

New to CBT

Hi Cleo:  I can only speak for myself.  When I was at the beginning of my panic - almost 20 years ago, there was nowhere to turn.  I am the one who had to suggest to my doctor that I wanted long-term management of my anxiety and asked for an SSRI.  My doctor agreed.  I took Paxil for about 5 years.  I forget exactly, but they helped me a great deal.  While the meds. calmed me down, I took a CBT course and support group.  This would have been very difficult for me to do if I hadn't had Paxil because the course was in a city over an hour away.  I don't think I could have driven myself in those days without help of an SSRI.  There are more than one kind, your doctor would probably know which one is best for you.  Do not be afraid to try it.  I know someone who tried 3 different kinds before one suited her, and she is doing great! Once you have had some time to heal your exhausted, tired out body, I think you will come back to a better you, faster.  Keep studying the CBT program here at the same time and once you feel you have mastered some of the techniques, and understand better, you can always taper off the medication with your doctor's approval and help.  Always include your doctor in any decisions you are making re: drugs. for sure.
Again, only speaking for myself, that is what I did.  I haven't had panic attacks for a very long time, actually I can hardly remember the last one.  I do get symptoms though which I manage with breathing and relaxation techniques. hope this can help you.

throat tightness/lump feeling

Hi Mikelorez:  welcome to the site.  Yes, I used to get tight throat and lump in my throat, sometimes felt as though someone was choking me.  It was so annoying.  I used to drink water all the time.  Mostly, any kind of relaxation exercises helped with it. Sometimes I used distraction, such as talking to a friend on the phone for a few minutes.  When you start to relax, it does go away.  Have you learned any relaxation techniques yet?  I use the muscle relaxing one a lot and the box breathing too.  Hope you will try this CBT program. I think you will find it very helpful.  Good luck.  Post whenever you want, ask questions, there's always someone here to reply.  Good luck

New to CBT

Hi everyone:  My doctor once told me that Sir Laurence Olivier took propranolol for his stage fright.  He would take one before a performance because his heart just raced.
