Art is like wine, no matter how expensive and supposedly good it is if the wine doesn't go with the meal it might as well be Chateau Outhouse 2012.

If you are analyzing it instead of enjoying it then what is the point. It really boils down to, what do you like.

You're right about expression, with art being only that.

If there is a lack of subjectivity, people start playing power games, and nobody wins those

Art is like the Bible, you can find what ever you want in it.

Art doesn't even have to be beautiful. It just has to be something you like. It is amazing how much of my crap gets grabbed off on it's way to the wood stove. But then I see things differently than others I suppose.

Art is like life, live it, don't try to force it to be what it is not.

Hugs if you spent all day shaping an ugly vase and put your heart into it, it would still be art even if you didn't like it. Some one would. Art is an expression. Art is life, it has it's truly great moments. It also has it's flops. The neat thing about working in wood is it can have a second use, it can heat our house.

Art does exist as perfect, just what is the definition of perfect?

Not many people are willing to give failure a second opportunity. They fail once and it's all over. The bitter pill of failure is often more than most people can handle. If you're willing to accept failure and learn from it, if you're willing to consider failure as a blessing in disguise and bounce back, you've got the potential of harnessing one of the most powerful success forces.
- Joseph Sugarman

If I were making a vase out of clay, I suppose each shaping would be failure, if I were really hard on myself, since it takes many strokes, and attempts at shapings to get to the desired vase.  I suppose I could see life that way too, instead of seeing life as perfect every time.

I don't think art exists as perfect, does it?

If you have tried to do something and failed, you are vastly better off than if you had tried to do nothing and succeeded. You must never regret what might have been. The past that did not happen is as hidden from us as the future we cannot see.
- Richard Martin Stern

Sounds like that saying "...'tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved..."

If you want to take your mission in life to the next level, if you're stuck and you don't know how to rise, don't look outside yourself. Look inside. Don't let your fears keep you mired in the crowd. Abolish your fears and raise your commitment level to the point of no return, and I guarantee you that the Champion Within will burst forth to propel you toward victory.
- Bruce Jenner

Even champions struggle, as an aside

You can do what you want to do, accomplish what you want to accomplish, attain any reasonable objective you may have in mind - not all of a sudden, perhaps not in one swift and sweeping act of achievement - but you can do it gradually, day by day and play by play, if you want to do it, if you work to do it, over a sufficiently long period of time.
- William E. Holler

Gosh I appreciate people who put up with my long learning curve.  I'm all I've got, anyway.  What can I do

Coincidence?

This is related to stress in your life.  (myth or fact)

Many men fail because they quit too soon. They lose faith when the signs are against them. They do not have the courage to hold on, to keep fighting in spite of that which seems insurmountable. If more of us would strike out and attempt the "impossible," we very soon would find the truth of that old saying that nothing is impossible... abolish fear and you can accomplish anything you wish.
- Dr. C. E. Welch

You can have anything you want if you want it desperately enough. You must want it with an inner exuberance that erupts through the skin and joins the energy that created the world.
- Sheila Graham

That would explain my acne for so much of my life
