It's a very tough morning

With this back surgery recovery not smoking has been really tough. I don't have alot to do to keep my hands busy. The last few days have been nice outside so I was able to take short walks. As you remember my husband smokes and he makes it very hard for me. Today it is raining so there will be no short walks outside. I know today is going to be really hard. I know I have to stay strong. The new tissue and the new bone are counting on me. I can't sit at the computer very long because of my back. I may need lots of help today. Any good advice of things I can do without standing or sitting very long? I will listen to any and all advice!!! It's a very tough morning

Great ideal! I bought my grandson a PSP for Christmas. Maybe he'll let me borrow it for awhile. I have also decided to maybe quilt some pillows. Just have to wait for the rain to let up so I can go shopping. I have to be real careful I don't slip or fall :) Thanks for the help. It's a fighting day today I'm sure. But I will be strong!!!! Thanks for the ideals. New - well not really

Hi Peterpan I have the same feelings you do. I quit for 20 days and started back up. It is so hard. It's a struggle every minute it seems. I just lost a friend to lung cancer and he quit smoking 20 years ago. My thinking is why did he quit if it killed him anyway? I know thats the wrong way to think but thats where my mind is right now. Sometimes it so hard to understand if I want to smoke or if I don't won't to smoke. I haven't lit up yet but today is a very hard day for me. :confuse: Good luck to you,Terri

Newbie

Good luck to you catlover. We are all here for the same reason. This is the first support group I came to and so far it has been great. I hear alot of people say they belong to more than one group. I'm not that great with memory. lol :) I'm sucking on peppermints and that seems to be helping. I have to wait awhile before i can use any smoking aids. I just had a spinal fusion and I'm still on some painkillers. But anyway good luck to you and I'm hear all the time. :| Becuase I am limited on my activities for awhile. Thank God for computers :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/19/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 109 Amount Saved: $24 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 44 Seconds: 25

New quitter...again

Hi toughenough. It's a hard battle. I'm only on day 3 and its so hard. I don't know how I made it 20 days. I can't get any help yet because I'm on alot of meds from having surgery. But I know if I smoke it can kill the new tissue around the new bone in my back. I have learned to suck on mints. They help alot. And walking helps too. This site has so many great people with great ideas. Hang tough and hopefully this one will be the quit for you. I made it 20 days and caved

Day 3. I think its harder than the last quit. I am taking so much crap from people who made it. Mostly my mother...She never makes mistakes--just ask her. lol She used the gum and got hooked on it. She is so disgusted with me because I did go 20 days and caved. She knows I can't smoke because of the tissue. I think maybe I should have just lied to her. But thst not my style. I just hate being told " I told you so". Don't people understand the stress involved? What do you say to rude people who happen to be your mother?

Working through my first morning!!!

Hi Captain. I hope today goes easier for you. I'm working on my third day and so far its going ok. I still want one really bad and the cravings are strong. I made it 20 days and then I lost but I am trying it again. I'm learning alot from this group. I suck on alot of mints and take short walks. I don't have any support at home but I'm getting some from here. I wish you all the luck in the world. Sneak attack on Day 8

The car is where I caved. Be strong. I know its hard and why is the car the worst place of all? Does anyone have an answer for that? I did so well for 20 days and then smoked in the car. Could be because my husband lit one up and I just didn't fight the urge hard enough. Good luck to you today. Hey All, I'm New Here

You know it was strange but I quit for 20 days and i didn't have a cough or the tightness of the chest at all. But then again I was on high doses of vicodin and valium. I still don't have the cough yet. I was a very heavy smoker. Like 3 packs a day. I'm trying to change the things I usually do everyday so it isn't as tough. I used to not understand how people could quit for even 2 weeks and start back up but i did it after three weeks and i really did it without thinking. My husband and i were shopping and we went to get in the car and he lit up and i took it without giving it much thought. Its kinda like I just forgot. I'm kicking myself now because I was so proud of myself. But I'm working hard for it again. Good luck to you and good luck to your mother!!! This is one of those days...

Hi Phil I feel your pain. I put my back out on Nov.30th. I suffered with that sciatic nerve pain for almost 6 weeks. I went through acupuncture and intense therapy. Nothing worked. i ended up having the spinal fusion with the cadaver bone and the plate and rods and pins. It's been 26 days now since surgery. My legs and hips hurt like crazy but my back feels better and the sciatica is gone. I never knew that smoking helps dry up the discs. I have learned alot about the back in the last few months Congrats on not smoking going through all that pain. That's when I smoked the most. All I could do was walk. I walked for 10 hours straight to fight off the cramps. The whole time with a smoke in my hand. The spinal fusion is not as bad as you may think. Hopefully your back will feel better real soon. Do you have bad discs?
