Mind Games

Thank you so much for talking to me. Please, keep talking to me. This is so hard and I know it'll take some time before it gets easier. I do choose not to smoke. It's my choice. So why do I feel like I'm being punished? That's another mind game, right? kygirl613, congratulations on your first week. I'm so proud of you and I can't wait to get there myself. A day goes by so fast but, when you're in your quit, my Lord they go my slow. At least they do for me. I understand anxiety attacks. I've had them for years and to the point of going into a full blown panic attack....many times. I don't understand why we have to suffer from them but I did have to get help from my doctor to manage them. All of this happened while I was smoking and for years. So, I know the cigarettes didn't calm me or I'd never have had to get help from my doctor. It's the life change that brings on an anxiety attack. Giving up smokes is a life change for sure. But it's one you will adjust to in time and those anxiety attacks will leave you alone as well. Good luck and we're all here for you. Hanging In There

FaithFreedom, thank you for your words. I do have to develop a positive way of having a talk with myself. It's so strange. I'm diabetic and was diagnosed 4 years ago. I've gone for years now without putting a biscuit close to my mouth. And I love biscuits. I've stuck to a very strict diet and have kept my blood sugar under control. Before that, at age 22, out of the blue I had a seizure. As it turned out, I have a scar in the vision center part of the brain and have to take medication to prevent seizures for 24 years now. I don't like taking meds, I don't like taking insulin, and I don't like not having sweets or carbs. But, my attitude was far more positive and I've managed both illnesses very well. This shouldn't be any different for me but it has been. I didn't approach it in the right way with the first "haunting" that came out of the blue. I do have to be more positive. I believe, for me, that I have to keep in mind that I'm not being deprived of cigarettes but rather, I'm depriving those cigarettes from controlling me. I have to be the one in charge here. That's the only way I'm going to make it. That was the attitude I had with two illnesses and, being an addict, I believe that's the attitude I need to have to have a successful quit. And I need you and everyone else to tell me how horrible I look with a smoke hanging out of my mouth and how horrible I smell. ha ha ha I'm laughing but I'm serious too. It helps me to be reminded all of the time because those reminders help me with my attitude about quitting and the talks I have with myself. Thank you all for your help and understanding. I appreciate it so, so much. Now, today I'm going to have more positive self talks. I cant believe i am angry and depressed and i only quit yesterday

Heya Babygirl, how's it going for you today? I'm sure you're still plugging away at it. Me too!! ha ha I had a rough night last night and almost caved in but didn't. I found a pack of smokes in my husband's work truck!! He had bought them to arm himself against my wrath while I'm going through withdrawals. I went out to check out the Cd player in the truck and there they were. I knew if I'd opened them, I would have smoked the whole pack. I came to this site instead and found support here. I no longer have that unopened pack of smokes to tempt me. I do admit that part of me wishes I hadn't given them to my husband to get rid of. Nope, I couldn't do it myself but, I didn't open them. That says something. I'm still crabby and even more so now that I gave away that full pack of cigarettes for my husband to get rid of for me. So, I thought of you and wanted to touch base with you. Let me know how you're doing when you can. Okay? I really do care and God knows, I truly do understand what you're going through. And.....it sucks!! By the way, I love your nickname. I had to put that in there after reading all of the posts. ha ha My nick is pronounced Tootie and it was given to me as a baby by my dad after Tutti Frutti ice cream. I'm 46 years old and the name is still with me so, I just had to add my comment about yours. You wanna trade? ha ha ha Take Care and Good Luck!! I made it 20 days and caved

SammiJo, This is strange. These cravings are much stronger tonight than what I've felt before. All day today, I've only felt very mild urges that were easily dismissed. But tonight, the cravings are very intense but, and this is so weird, I'm having an anxiety attack. I know that's what it is because I've had them off and on for years. Can nicotine withdrawal throw a person into an anxiety attack? I'm working on my breathing and the anxiety is fading some now. I can't take NRT's but, these cravings were so intense that I had my son-in-law drop off a piece of his nicorette gum. I only used half of a piece and it set the inside of my mouth on fire. I don't know if that's normal or not but, I spat it out. I think I'll stick to sugarfree cherry lifesavers, sugarfree gum, and smacking my husband around a bit. ha ha ha ha Quitter's humor there. God, I hope I sleep through tonight. HELP!!!!!!!!

Bj, I know what you're going through. I know all about that teething business and it is so, so stressful. I'm right here and having a horrible, intense, I want to smack someone around, craving. ha ha ha I only quit yesterday so you know what my body is going through. So, we can lean on each other. Tell me what your tools were at the very beginning of your quit to manage with your cravings. I think you should pull them back up to the surface and rely on them tonight. You're well equipped. I'm right here if you need me. Tell Me Yours

Folks, It's way too soon in my quit to have the long lists that you have but, I'm proud of my little list. 1. My husband and three children are cheering me on and so happy that I have quit. 2. My 76 year old Momma can stop worrying about her youngest daughter so much and she's so happy that I've quit. 3. My house, car, and office smell so good now and my clothes, hair, and breath are fresh. 4. I no longer repulse my dog and cat. 5. I've found a great group of people here on this site and am still amazed that all of you are willing to take time out of your busy lives to spend with me. 6. As time goes by, I'll be able to add to my list. Well, my list wasn't too short after all. HELP!!!!!!!!

Hey BJ, I have three children as well, two boys and a daughter. But mine are now grown and live out on their own. But do I ever remember the teething stages. If you can get the baby's gums cold, they'll feel much better. I use to put tea spoons in the freezer and then rub the teaspoon on my baby's gums. Then, they came out with the teething ring that you can freeze. A really cold wet wash cloth works good too (for the baby to chew on). I'm a little more calm now. I want this quit so badly. Now, are you feeling a little better? Remember to drink that water during a crave. That is so strange to me how water helps with a crave. Oh, and BJ, if you're feeling really stressed out and nervous with the baby crying, don't drink anything with caffiene in it. It adds to stress. I'm still here for you. I know everyone else is too. Breathe!! ha ha ha Tutti My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 105 Amount Saved: $2.79 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 56 Seconds: 52

Habitual Craving...Help!

Tennielle, you know those giant, fuzzy dice? Hang those from your rearview mirror. I'll bet you want think about a cigarette. You'll be thinking, "I've got to conguer this trigger because those are just way too tacky." I had to say something to lighten things up a bit. You WILL conquer that trigger. I know you will.
