24 hours without a smoke

Dj, Congratulations on your decision to quit. Pat yourself on the back for that one and it sounds like you have your mind made up. That's great. I know it'll be hard and I'm right here with you. Day 9 for me and you go through a lot but I know it's worth it. Hang in there, one crave at a time and one day at a time. This is a great site for support and a wonderful group of people. Some of us are new quitters and some are much further down the road. But, either way, we all know how hard it is and will support you in every way. Drink lots and lots of water for any craves that come. Actually, drink lots and lots of water all day long. It flushes your system and really helps with the cravings. Make sure you have your goodies to snack on to satisfy that "hand to mouth" thing. It's wonderful that you and your husband are quitting together. That's a great support you have there and you both have even more support here on this site. Read lots of posts and ask as many questions as you need to. Hang in there. You CAN do this. Oh no do I have to start over ...

I had three cigarettes in about 11 hours after I had started my quit on Valentine's Day. It was my personal choice to reset my meter. I just wanted my quit to be flawless plus, I figured those cigarettes would trigger the cravings and withdrawals all over again. They did. It was my personal choice. When I reset my meter, I made sure there were NO cigarettes in my house or office. Getting rid of all smokes was part of the process, I didn't, so I busted my butt. You have to make that choice for yourself about your meter. Hang in there and Make sure all smokes are gone now. Who are the Febuary 07 Quitters?

HA HA HA HA HA Oh, I know what you mean there too!! I can't believe how much I've eaten but it's mainly roughage. It's amazing how nicotine messed up how our bodies are suppose to work. Now we have to ride it out until everything gets back in working order. Hey, your meter is very impressive!! We're right here together. We'll hang in there together and I know we can do this. Oh man, those cravings are exhausting but we'll take one crave at a time and one day at a time. I think I've been looking too far ahead into the future and letting my quit overwhelm me. Just one crave and one day, right? Granted, it's like hanging onto a bear's butt for one day but, we'll hang on tight. back to heavy cravings - again!

Folks, I need a little information. Why do these cravings attack so hard when the nicotine is suppose to be out of our systems in 3 days? What causes the cravings after such a long period of time? I remember my dad quit after smoking 35 years and he smoked non-filter Pall Malls. Remember those? Anyway, 20 years after he quit cold turkey I remember him telling me, "He could smoke a cigarette as long as the couch." After 20 years!!? And, he kept mints in his right shirt pocket for those 20 years after he'd quit....right where he use to keep his smokes. The three days that it takes for nicotine to leave your system, does that mean that in those three days the withdrawals such as anxiety, sweats, shakiness will leave. In other words, the physical withdrawals? But the cravings can last indefinitely? Need a little clarification here. I vewy, vewy confused. LOL I do know that I'm on Day 9 and this morning, I woke up with a horrible crave and it's lasted all morning. Actually, except for small breaks in between, I've had hard cravings since Day 1. I seem to do a lot better when I'm sleeping. LOL LOL I don't want to smoke at all but I'm so tired of thinking about it, reminding myself that I do not smoke, tired of the cravings, and just so tired of thinking about anything that has to do with smoking....period. Right now I feel, "Sick and Tired of feeling sick and tired." Does that make sense? Need some answers folks and a little encouragment too. A boost....a kick in the pants? ha ha ha Hugs, Tutti My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 428 Amount Saved: $27 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 14 Seconds: 13

It's a very tough morning

Terri, I still want one too!!!! If this weren't such a pain in the butt it'd be funny. I just got off of the phone with Sprint and after talking to a computer over the phone, then being on hold for almost 10 minutes, and then finally talking to a customer service guy, I am really craving bad. And, I'm real crabby. I still don't know what the heck that guy at Sprint was telling me either. This is NOT a good day to have to deal with people about business crap. Do you know what? I believe I could handle this better if the only symptom of quitting was a raging case of inflamed hemorrhoids. HA HA HA It wouldn't be near the pain in the butt. We'll hang in there together and yes, it sure does help to talk to someone who's going through this with me. I think we're still craving so bad too because we smoked so much. I feel like writing a strongly worded letter to the high school pal that got me started. ha ha ha One day at a time, right? Ugh!!! Who are the Febuary 07 Quitters?

Changing, I know it's soooo hard. It really is unbelievable how hard this is. I'm on Day 9 today and woke up with a horrible craving. The withdrawal symptoms like the shakiness and hot flashes were gone by Day 4. But the cravings come and go....then they bear down hard. We could do without the anxiety on top of all the rest, couldn't we? This is WAR!! lol I don't know about you but I get real tired of thinking about a cigarette, reminding myself that I no longer smoke, thinking of things to do when the crave hits, thinking, thinking, thinking. The thinking thing gets a little maddening. Keep venting. Okay? That's really important because you have to blow off steam. I'll be here and I know the rest of the folks on the site are here for you too. Do your deep breathing too when a crave hits. In through the nose slowly and then out through the mouth slowly. That and water really got me through those first days.....and talking to people on this site. Keep hanging in there. You CAN do this and we're all here for you. back to heavy cravings - again!

Stubborn, I'm not as far as you in my quit but I've read quite a few posts where folks have hit a slump right about the same time you have. The cravings come back but after a few days, they'll leave again. I know, it sucks but from what I've read, it will pass just like it did in the beginning. Meanwhile, pull out those same tools you used at the beginning to carry you through the slump. And you hang in there. You'll probably hear me singing the blues when I hit the 30-35 day mark and you can help me out of the same slump. Deal? Hang In There Now. It's a very tough morning

Good Morning Porky, I hope you're feeling better today. We're right there together on our quit date so I know how you're feeling....to a point. It's worse on you right now because of your back. But, as far as cravings go.....UGH!! I'm like you, I'm wondering what's up with that 3 day thing. ha ha ha It sure feels like the nicotine is still in my system and is causing these terrible cravings. This morning, they're bad, bad, bad. Actually, the cravings have been right here ever since I quit with a break now and then. But after thinking back over the last 9 days, I've HAD cravings a lot more than I haven't. We have a home based business so yesterday, I got all of my work done and then had to lay on the couch and sleep for a long time. I felt exhausted and was sick of dealing with cravings. I really believe these cravings wear us out mentally, emotionally, and physically. This morning, I'm so crabby and as soon as I woke up, I thought about a cigarette. Then I thought, "Oh yea, I don't smoke anymore." Then I was a little disappointed because I knew the battle was about to start to resist those cravings. I don't want to give up or give in but, I sure would like a break and I know you would too. Wouldn't it be great to wake up and not think about a cigarette at all? When you get time, let me know how you're doing today. I sure hope you've caught a break. Peace of mind sounds so good, doesn't it? Who are the Febuary 07 Quitters?

Changing, Keep hanging in there and if you need to vent, scream, whatever, I'm right here along with the rest of the folks on this site. Day 3 is a LULU isn't it? If you look under Withdrawal Symptoms, you'll find my post called Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me. I posted that when I was on Day 3 and it was horrible. I had to get on this site and vent and get feedback before I caved in. I was so afraid I was about to cave but at the same time, I wanted to hang in there with everything I had. Are you drinking a lot of water? I mean, as much water as you can stand and especially when those cravings hit? Make sure you do, okay? I'm on Day 9 and still have to drink a lot of water but on Day 1 through 4, everytime I moved it sounded like the waves coming in. lol Do you have your gum, hard candy, soft candy, straws, toothpicks, sunflower seeds, peanuts, etc. to help with that hand to mouth thing? As soon as you get home from work, shed the clothes, take a hot shower, grab a bite, and settle in with a bottle of water and your snacks. Try to sleep as much as you can, when you can. Your body is healing with each and every crave......with each and every withdrawal symptom. Breath in slowly through your nose and out through your mouth, pause, and do it again during those anxiety attacks. Don't panic, be aware that your body is healing. And if you talk about what you're feeling, it helps. Okay? Hang in there and we're all with you!! You're doing great and have a wonderful attitude.
