Day 2 gone wrong

Jaws, Don't beat yourself up here. Okay? You'll learn something from this. First thing, get rid of ALL cigarettes and ashtrays in the house. Destroy those smokes. That's a hard one but they can't be there. And you can't give them to someone else to keep for you. You'll ask that person to give 'em right back. By getting rid of any and all smokes and ashtrays, when you wake up in the mornings, those cigarettes won't be there for you to grab out of habit. I know, I know. I wake up every single morning and a smoke comes to mind about 2 to 3 minutes after I wake up then I remember, "Oh yea, I'm a nonsmoker." That feels good to say that. Now this morning, I didn't think of cigarettes that quickly. So, it WILL get better. Get your house all clean and fresh. Light candles, incense or whatever to get rid of that smoke smell. You talked about wanting to smoke more while doing things where you always smoked. Those are triggers. You need to avoid those triggers until the nicotene is out of your system. You can't avoid them all but some, you can. Like the telephone, that's a trigger for me and I'm still limiting the amount of time I spend on the phone. My pc is another trigger so I had to clean it good, put a nice candle where the ashtray use to be, sit out pictures of my family, instead of sitting my drink to the left where I used to I sit it to the right now, and things like that. Find your triggers and change them up if you can't steer clear of them for a while. Are you drinking water? You have to drink lots and lots of water. I mean as much water as you can hold. Water helps with the cravings and flushes the poison out of your system. Make sure you have plenty of gum, candy, sunflower seeds, toothpicks, straws, peanuts, and anything else you can think of to help with that "hand to mouth" thing. Read the tools to the left under Quit Program Tools. They really help. Okay? Don't feel like a failure. Learn from this and try even harder. You didn't want a cigarette today.....the addict in you needed it's fix. You'll have to fight but it does get easier and you can talk to us all you need to. Hell Week At An End

Phew!! Hell Week is coming to an end. Yee Hah!! It was really hard for three days and gradually got much easier. Today has been really good with the exception of a crave here and there. But nothing I can't handle. Thank you for all of your support!! FAILED THE FIRST SHOULD I TRY AGAIN; HELP

Paul, Yea, try again. You don't WANT to smoke, it's the addict in you that needs a fix. You'll have to fight but we're here for you. Have things there for that "hand to mouth" thing. Like sunflower seeds, roasted peanuts, gum in lots of flavors, lots of hard candy, that soft candy is goooood too, straws to chew, toothpicks, and whatever else you want. Above all, have lots of water there. Drink as much water as you can hold. Drink water all day long and hit it hard when the cravings come. It flushes your system and really helps with those cravings. You really need all of these things or whatever you'd like to use for that hand to mouth thing. NO, not a cigarette. ha ha ha You need to throw away ALL of your cigarettes and ashtrays. It's hard to throw those smokes away but if you don't, you can easily cave. I did after three days on my first quit because there were three cigarettes still here in my house. You have to get rid of them if you really, really want to succeed. Make a list of the reasons you want to quit. Write them down. That really helps a lot. Make your house, car, etc. smoke free. Clean the house and car and get rid of as much of the smoke smell as you can. Light candles in your house, incense, oils, whatever. Make your house and car smell nice, clean, and smoke free. What were you doing when you caved today? Coffee, my PC, after meals, the telephone, my car are all triggers to smoke for me. Look at your triggers and do something completely different. If you're at the computer and smoke, move the desk, put out pictures of your family, sit a candle where the ashtray use to sit, etc. You get the picture. Take it easy on yourself and avoid those triggers as much as possible. I'm still limiting my PC time and telephone time. I drive my husband's new smoke free truck instead of my car. LOL (I like that truck better anyway) Like everyone has said, use the tools to the left under Quit Program Tools. Work the Quit Program Workbook. It does help and it prepares you. Read as many posts as you can and you post a lot. We're all here for you. Now, ready, set, go. me too...

KiwiKeith, I'm glad you went to the doctor and are feeling better. Remember now, the medication your doctor prescribed may take a while to get into your system. So be patient, okay? Talk about how you're feeling. Even if you don't want to go for counseling, talk to someone about your depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. I've suffered from anxiety attacks for years now and when they were at their worst point, I went into full blown panic attacks. You can talk to me about them all you want. Talking about them really helps. Hang in there, okay? You'll be fine....but don't smoke. Sneak attack on Day 8

Den2, I know how you feel. Waking up without that cigarette is miserable. I remind myself that it's the addict in me wanting it's fix. Still miserable though, huh? Well, they say it'll get easier over time and I have to believe that. I'm finishing up my 7th Day and this morning was the first morning that I didn't think of a cigarette withing 2 or 3 minutes after waking up. Every day it's been a big, ole let down for that cigarette not to be there. But, I do believe it'll get easier. You've done a great job on your quit. Look at your stats!!!! That's wonderful so you know you don't want to throw in the towel now and start over. Keep talking to us during this stressful time in your life, okay? That's a must. And pull out some of those tools you were using at the beginning of your quit. Like lots and lots of water to help with the cravings. Hang in there, Okay? Keep talking to us. You've done a fantastic job so far and you can do keep right on trucking. Thanks

Hey Susie, You do need to curl up on the couch, have all of your favorite snacks around, and just get lost in a really good movie. Let the all of that stress and anxiety run off. Try not to dwell on how bad you feel right now. I know that's easier said than done but if you can just get lost in a good movie for a while and then drift off to sleep, the rest will be so good for you. I know, when you're feeling that anxiety and sadness, you feel like you want to share it, or ease it some, with a cigarette. You know that's the addict talking. Get mad at the addict and get mad at the anxiety. Just a thought here, I've had anxiety attacks for years. At their worst, they went into full blown panic attacks and I couldn't even drive alone for a while. I smoked like a chimney and those attacks were always knocking me off of my feet. So a smoke sure didn't help me out any, right? I think that in time, both of us will have fewer anxiety attacks or none at all because we're now smoke free. I believe that smoking has made the attacks worse. We'll see in time. Susie, talk about your attacks. I don't know about you but I was so embarrassed about mine and wouldn't talk about them. For one thing, they are so hard to describe or understand. There's nothing at all to be embarrassed about because we do live in an extremely stressful world. That stress effects everyone in different ways but in our case, we're effected by having anxiety/panic attacks. Be sure you talk through your attacks. People do understand them and it's amazing now just how many people have them. When you talk about them with someone, you feel a sense of comfort just knowing that someone else knows what's happening. Even if that person doesn't understand anxiety/panic attacks, you'll still feel comforted knowing that person is aware of your medical condition. Talking will give you a saftey net and the attacks will fade away. You can always, always talk to me. Believe me hun, I do understand how you're feeling. Oh, I have been having some anxiety since my quit. Day 3 was horrible and one attack after another. But you know what I've discovered, IF I drink anything with caffeine in it, that seems to be when the attacks come. Caffeine is a depressant. I had always heard th

Kiwi, My post had lots of typos but I have to correct one. On number 3, I meant to say, "There is no shame in this illness." I'm sorry about that. That's what happens when you don't proof read.
