GAGA 100 Today

Gaga, Congratulations on reaching the Beach! Virtual beach is so fun, because you can do anything, have anything, wear anything that you want. The food has no calories, and lobster is cooked by the chef you guys have waiting. Plus there is no cost except to leave your ciggerets behind. Very small price for all this greatness. Come on by.......Cheryl No Joking, I'm Still Not Smoking! My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/4/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 198 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,766 Amount Saved: $564.3 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 23 Mins: 15 Seconds: 18

please help me help me

Paula, Wow, that was some post. I am not sure what you mean when you say that you have no plan. Last July you had one. Did you loose it? I am sure that it is still around here somewhere. Do you see all of these good people who are ready to help you? The problem is that we can't help you if you won't come here before you smoke and post and wait for someone to talk to you. We can't help you when you still have ciggeretts laying around to be found. We can't help if you won't make the commitment to not put the smoke in your mouth. I told you we would be here when you are ready. Are you just checking to see if its true? Ready means you have a plan, you have made a choice, and you are ready to make a commitment. ARE YOU READY? We will still be here. Your July quit buddy--remember? fear

grey wolf, You are doing great! Look at you 11 days,326 cigs that you haven't smoked. You should be very proud of that. Continuing to have the urge to smoke on occasion is normal. Some times they are light and at others times they are fierce. But please keep in your mind, that at this point the physical addiction is over and what is left is a mind game between you and OLD NIC. He is a tricky opponent and will use every thing he knows about you to convince you that you can't do this. His main purpose is to keep you locked into the cig manufacturers product. He is loathsome, and nasty and he even cheats. He will use your spouse, your friends, your family, even strangers to try to get you back. But he can no longer make you smoke, you have broken the physical hold. Now it's time to boot him to the curb. You must take charge of your mind and let it know that you are through with smoking. That it is no longer an option in your life. And you must believe it yourself. Keep saying it until you do. When thoughts first come to your mind, shut them off quick. Let them know right up front that you are not having any. I and many others have found that if you continue to entertain thoughts that you might be willing to smoke even if you don't spell it out, then the cravings come harder and more frequantly until you close them off. So save yourself some trouble and start doing it now. "NO thank you, I don't smoke". I don't want to smoke, I will not smoke... See how many ways you can say it. Practice often. It will help. I am so foggy I can't even figure how to get this started.

JJ, Are you still using the Nicotine Gum? How many pieces a day?

hi, starting from the begining

Hello, Its so nice to see so many people starting off their new lives in the last 2 weeks. Each of you deserves special recognition for being willing to work your way through this journey. The first couple of weeks are about you and getting the nicotine out of your body. Most of you are long term smokers and ridding yourself of nicotine can be a difficult and all consuming job. Stay with it and the benifits will soon out weigh the losses. Just stick close, and continue to post and to read each others post. They will be the way that you can get your mind into the next phase of the journey. When the physical cravings have past and the mental journey is started. You each can do this. You need to want to be a non-smoker more than you want anything else. Look through the threads and see how many times it talks about the mental or mind games/journey. It will help you to be ready. tough time ahead next week

What an interesting thing that you slip when your away. Could there be something in your mental game that thinks if your not home it doesn't count? Or is there some extra stress involved with the trip away from you familiar routine? By all means take a laptop, But prepare yourself in other ways also, will the place you are staying have a gym or exercise room. Would you be safe enough to go for a run somewhere? Do you have to much or to little time on your hands? Plan some activities that you can do that don't involve meetings, or eating or watching TV or reading/video games. You need to keep your body busy and your mind focused on what is important. Loosing a quit after that length of time, I don't think that it is really loosing it. I think that it is more like choosing to become a smoker again. You need to contract with yourself that your will do certain things if you feel like giving it up again, among which could be comming to this site and telling people what you are planning. You keep safe and smokefree during this trip. We are all rooting for you. Cheryl No Joking, I'm Still Not SMoking! Intro

Just checking in to see how you are doing? I know that it seems rough at times but I think older smokers have a better chance of quitting. I failed a couple of times before over the years, and was really concerned about trying again. I was just sure that I would fail. But I am still here, one day at a time, and still smoke free. So I am sure that if you want it, you can do it too. Nobody likes a sad Doctor

Went into the doctors today for a followup on all the test that he ordered last week for my lupus. Sort of a mixed bag. Liver enzymes were back to normal, and the inflamation labs are on their way back down. The x-rays were not to bad. Then he pulled up the stool, and sat right down in frount of me. (Now I am a Nurse, and I know that is not good news.)He asked me how long ago I quit smoking, and I said 212 days ago. (Ha, I even know to the day, just like most of you) Then he looked me in the eye and said " Just Why did you quit smoking?" I told him because it was time. He wanted to know if I was having any breathing problems, or chest pains, or coughing, etc, etc, etc. Then he told me there was something on the chest x-ray. Looked like it might be a tumor or something. Must have repeated 4-5 times that they couldn't be sure what it was. Had I had my mamogram this year? :quest: Ok, so we need to get on this right away. How is your schedule for the rest of the day today, and what about tomorrow if we can't get you in today? Oh, and well we need to do a CT of your chest and abdomen. Sometimes these lesions can be caused by a different type of arthritis and we need to check out both areas to see if there are any more, and to find out more about this one that we see.(not an expert you understand, but I have never heard of that one.) :confuse: OK, Let's set it up for this afternoon if it is possible. (This at 9:15 in the morning). At 3:30 this after noon they did the scan. I got home at 6:30 after being gone since 7Am. At 8:45 this evening the doctors nurse called me. She wanted to let me know that she had seen the CT results and wanted to talk to me about what they showed. NO Tumor. Some type of calcification lesion, looks like from a lung infection in the past couple of years. Any way she thought she would just call and let me know so that I could sleep tonight :) And so HOW WAS YOUR DAY? Another newbie

Way to go! Into your 4th day and the nicotine should be mostly out of your system. Be sure and drink lots of fluids, try to make most of them juices, as caffine will only have an increased effect on you at this point. Sort of like expresso. One day at a time is how we all make it through this part. So just keep hanging on. Won't be long now.
