I am new here, but not to quitting.

Joe D., This is like old home week...you posting and all. The information you shared is as always with you, dead on the money. The site, when properly used, deflects the craving when it gets flung on us. Yes, you can quit...hang in. Emphysema

Sadly, your mom is just one of those 40,000,000 just in the US alone who do not know why they continue. Would they like to quit...deep in there hearts and soul they would. Yet, on the surface the monster is so strong it masked reality. Here hoping that mom can have a little peace. COPD is a tuff way to go. God Bless you and your family. I am new here, but not to quitting.

With my success to date, I feel I can express an opinion about NRT's. They simply work. If you have a predisposition to smoking which you obviously do, you best get all the good help you can muster. I saw a chemo patient waiting with his family outside a hospital recently. As soon as they hit the smoking zone they lite up. He looked like he might have weighted 100 pounds. We are not that stupid you or I. Yet, we smoke as if we welcome COPD. When you feel enough suffering where you are, you will quit. The question is will you stay that way. Your record says no. Prove something to yourself most importantly...prove that you can take control of your destiny. I am looking forward to watching you here and want to help you in anyway I can. However, it is yours...not ours. Others here will hold your hand...I will not. Just remember the past and stay quit. I wish you all the best. Smokeless in Fl.

From 1 Floridian to another, welcome here. I also had quit for a while prior to locating this site. When I did though, it just made my permanent quit a reality. You can too. Where in Florida do you reside? I am new

Your thread title interest me. "I Am New...." Believe me, we are all new again each and ever 24 hours. The magic for success here is reinforcement daily to maintain. Next Wednesday is as good a day as any to start quitting. Do it. Day 41 and still have cravings

You need a simple check up from the neck up in your thinking. You seem to expect the patch to be a miracle and make things all better. In fact, right between your ears lies the formula for success. It is how you see it. You simply need to reinforce your efforts with things like dangers of smoking, success stories, etc. Having been here for all this time, I cannot recall anyone who said that the cravings get stronger with time. Turn head around and see it as half-full, not half-empty. You can do this...I know it. Congrats, Lindsey My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/10/2001 Smoke-Free Days: 1630 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 97,830 Amount Saved: $16300 Life Gained: Days: 336 Hrs: 10 Mins: 31 Seconds: 50

I need to stop smoking

Yes, those above me here speak volumnes. To simply say...I need to quit smoking...is to huge of a task. To gain knowledge, establish coping skills, practice methods, use NRT's, etc. is the answer. Remember, quitting smoking is really easy...if you work at it hard enough. No magic pill yet developed. You must prepare, prepare, prepare. Thousands have gone before you here and it does work to have this type of golden parachute to help us in our journey. Break down the effort in bite size pieces...I need to not smoke the next one. I need to go one hour without nicotine...I need to duplicate that feat 24 hours...I need to repeat that 24 hour thing...etc.etc.etc. You can really quit if you see it in small pieces. Establish a reason for quitting...write a dear john to nicotine, establish firm dates, times, targets. And most of all, knowledge is power. Learn Learn Learn.
