Hi dearest of dear friends:
You RANTED...now I will RAVE!
Although you were a few months back of my quit, I can almost without hesitation give you credit for being the one you seemed to care about me and gave me much needed and accurately timed support. Yes, I had already quit. Yet, I am not a robot and I also experience all that others talk about here. The difference was I had you, Lin, Kat and a very others to lean on. Our fire-side tet-a-tats, our cyber
hand holding, and literally our showing emotion together made our journey a successful one. I cherish and enjoy those relationship to this day and hopefully forever.
If only those newer at this could understand completely what you say above and then apply themselves to understand the Dangers of Smoking. The formula for success to me is Knowledge. It worked with us and can work here for all involved but they must work at it. Yes, it does get easier, if you work at it hard enough.
I do still start threads. My situation is different from yours and the other wonderful ladys I mentioned in that I have nothing but time on my hands now with Judy having passed and have frankly turned the site into a major source of pleasure and a boredom-breaker.
You are forever a cyber buddy and I think of you and the other 2 daily. What a bond this commonality can generate.
Best to the Bear Clan. Give us another update for the eyes of all here. The clan holds the record here for the most in a group to succeed. Talk about doing your part to reduce your carbon footprints on this earth...WOW!
Lindsey (Bubba)

Welcome and Congrats'
Unlike yourself, I felt I could not do this Cold Turkey and took the Warm Chicken method using patches. Hey, what works for an individual is all that matters...I would stand on my head nake on the busy intersection if that was what worked best for me.
Lil, you are now entering the crucial time of the start-up of a quit. The next 3 days will tax you a bit. The monster has been awaken within you and he frankly is scare to death you have his death in mind. Remember, the only way you can defeat nicotine is to face it head on. A friend likens it to facing the Devil in the bible. I know you are a good person, but get angry now at what that junk has done to you. The madder you get, the easier the passing of time.
Go to the Australian Governmental Site on stopping -
www.quitnow.info.au
and click on the Smokescreens...You should see what that junk has done to human organs. One person is only 31 in the pics and it is so sad. Do not hestiate to scare yourself a little. It works.
I live in Florida and assume I am miles and miles from you...yet, I do feel a sense about me that you can do this. Your words articulate that for sure.

Headline in Washington Post:
Smoking Falls Off Dramatically in U.S.
It went on to say-
The government has determined that there has been a 20 decline in smokers in the US in the last 2 years. Get this - Only 378 Billion cigarettes were sold in the US in 2005. That equates to 50% of what the consumption was in 1948, when the population was half of what it is today.
The research attributes the decline to the $240 Billion settlement, hence the higher cost of cigarettes, restrictions on advertising, and a shift in public perception as the dangers of smoking are more aggressively and widely publicized.
The goal by 2010 is to have only 17% of the youths and 12% of the adults still smoking. 21.7% of high schoolers still smoke, as do 20.9% of adults.
Take pride in being part of the effort to eradicate nicotine consumption in the world.
Enough said.

I have always thought that 60 days was kinda the escape point from massive slippage. You should be able to see a permenent quit from here. You deserve it.

Did you know that if you strung 30,000 cigarettes end to end, they would reach:
96,000 inches
8,000 feet
Be as tall as a 90 story building
begin to approach the strastophere
etc
etc
Well done good and faithful ex-smoker.

I think that it is an smoke by smoke thing. To partially quit is like being a little pregant. You can do this and you can do it now if you are willing to pay the price. The price is commitment and that is difficult for some folks. Be proud of who you are and pull the trigger. We will help. Remember though, it will be your quit.
What do I think...I think you are making one of the major decisions on this earth for yourself. Repairing the damage done by smoking is one of the strange things about quitting. It starts immediately and will repair itself by 1/2 each year until you can practically say you show little or no sign of having ever smoked. If you are under 35 it could be completely erased.
OK, I am watching....

Mega congrats' on quitting. Yet, it will mean little if you do not continue to prepare for this journey. It is all here and located just on your left here. Take that 6 step journey, read the success stories, establish a plan, break quitting down into bite size pieces and slay the dragon.
We are all depending on you.

When John W surfaces you just gotta' listen. He has been an inspiration to so many hundreds here in the past. Additionally, those others above my post here speak volumnes of knowledge about this subject. Yes, knowledge is power and power reinforces the effort. If one is not willing to study as much as they can about the dangers of smoking, get a scare put in them, and develop effective coping tools, they will fail. Might as well have smoked during that misery. However, if you are willing to pay the price, the rewards are of such proportions it will be almost unbelieveable. Just the confidence builder in knowing that you could and did quit is worth such peace of mind.
As a recent ad on tv says....you better listen to us and quit cause we know where you live...says it all. What would it mean to you that the magic of this site lets us/me sit here thousands of miles away and be privately proud of an individual. Right now I need that and you can deliver it. Thanks for quitting.
