litl1, Many people who quit will admit that the reason they never quit before was because of a fear of failure. Why go through withdrawal if it may not work, they wondered? They did not know about the Journey to our Online Quit Program or the wonderful support they could get here. When some people prepare to quit, they consciously try to cut down. One such person wrote to me that in order to be able to do that, she kept her cigarettes outside. For her, smoking had been automatic, and all other attempts to cut down had failed. She wanted to start developing coping methods before the big day came. Another person wrote that he put away his pack, only taking out a certain amount for the morning. He did the same for the afternoon and the same for the evening. This allowed him to discover the time of day when his strongest urges hit. Then he would work on dealing with that time of day. Cutting out a few favorites each day is another way to cut down, such as the ones on the ride home from work, or the first one in the morning. I totally know what you mean about feeling like a pretender. I am just starting to get used to the idea that I am not a smoker, but I have a long way to go. Those first few days were really rough and for me they were by far the toughest to get through. I still get cravings now, but I know that I can make it through them if I just pass the time. Good for you going cold turkey, I'm not quite that brave. (I chew nicorette gum) Keep up the good work and continue to believe in yourself. You can do this! I quit cold turkey 72 hours ago! Yea me!! Anyway, Its all down hill from here right? I still want to sneak a smoke but I just never get around to it. And it seems to be getting easier to ignore that little voice in my head telling me I dont want to quit smoking. I feel like I am pretending. Does anyone know what I mean? Hopefully It gets better!! Welcome and Congrats' Unlike yourself, I felt I could not do this Cold Turkey and took the Warm Chicken method using patches. Hey, what works for an individual is all that matters...I would stand on my head nake on the busy intersection if that was what worked best for me. Lil, you are now entering the crucial time of the start-up of a quit. The next 3 days will tax you a bit. The monster has been awaken within you and he frankly is scare to death you have his death in mind. Remember, the only way you can defeat nicotine is to face it head on. A friend likens it to facing the Devil in the bible. I know you are a good person, but get angry now at what that junk has done to you. The madder you get, the easier the passing of time. Go to the Australian Governmental Site on stopping - www.quitnow.info.au and click on the Smokescreens...You should see what that junk has done to human organs. One person is only 31 in the pics and it is so sad. Do not hestiate to scare yourself a little. It works. I live in Florida and assume I am miles and miles from you...yet, I do feel a sense about me that you can do this. Your words articulate that for sure.
