What an accomplishment you have achieved! You are an inspiration to all of us! I have 9+ months to go until I reach the one year milestone, but I know that I am on the right path with the support of SSC and giants like you! Congratulations to the Octobreathers!

Sparky, we'll be here for you when you are able to come back. Please don't be too hard on yourself, but know that when the time is right you can do this!
Lady CV, my thoughts and prayers for you and your children while you struggle with what your ex is experiencing. I'm sorry that your ex MIL gave you grief, but I am proud that you stood up to the situation and didn't break down. N.O.P.E.

Renee, congrats on surviving day 1! What kept me going when I first quit is my quit meter, seeing how many cigarettes I didn't smoke, seeing how much money I didn't spend, AND how much time I gained back. Be sure to reward yourself as you progress! You deserve it! And remember, we've all gone through what you are going through. When the nicodemon strikes, change your scenery, take a walk, post to this site and wait for a response, call a friend, drink a huge glass of ice water. Do whatever it takes! We're all here to help each other succeed!

Chris and Renee, welcome to SSC! You've received lots of good advice from other members. For me, my stat meter was a great motivator. I challenged myself to see it increase every day. Seeing how many cigarettes I didn't smoke, how much money I didn't spend, and how much time I gained back was a huge motivator for me. When times were tough, I drank lots of ice water, ate carrot sticks, went for walks, changed my scenery, and avoided situations I felt I could fail (going to bars, seeing smoking friends, etc). Do whatever you need to do to keep your quit. In good times and in bad times. Celebrating successes and getting back on track after a slip. We're all here for each other!

Pet, sorry to hear the nicodemon is after you the past couple days. Glad that you are staying strong. Blame it on Halloween. Think of the scariest monster, and this demon is 100x as bad. But you know, you have been challenging him the past 21 days, and you've won. Are you rewarding yourself enough? Each day you beat this demon reward yourself. Take a walk and look at the changing leaves, buy a pumpkin and carve it for Halloween, sit outside and smell the smoke free fall air, jump on a treadmill for 15 minutes, whatever small reward you can find! Just don't buy 10 bags of Snickers and eat them all at one sitting! LOL! We're all here for you Pet!

All, tomorrow I have what hopefully will be my last "regular" appointment with my oncologist. I'm scheduled for blood work to determine if my pt/inr is therapeutic (I'm on Coumadin to thin my blood) and my white blood cell count is normal (no cancer!). Its been a long 7 months, and hopefully I have reached the finish line! I'm also scheduled to have an ultrasound with my primary physician to make sure the blood clots are gone! I am so excited to tell both doctors that I am 72 days smoke free tomorrow! Thanks to everybody who has helped me with my struggles over the past 10 weeks! I'll let you know tomorrow how the tests go! Keep your fingers crossed!
