I know what you mean, I felt panic when I would think of quitting smoking. I thought they were my little friends too...there for every victory, every defeat, every time I needed one.
But in your mind you know they aren't your friends, they are very unhealthy, cost a fortune and most people don't like them any more. It is getting harder and harder to hang around that particular friend. In your head, you know they aren't friends at all. They are more like the friend who talked behind your back, borrowed your dress and went out with your boyfriend. After the (fill in the blank) borrowed your car.
Every time I want a cigarette, I try to remember that smoking isn't the solution. Smoking is the problem. Had I never smoked, I wouldn't be craving. So they don't get rid of that feeling, they cause that feeling.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. It is very hard to make that decision.
Good job on the smoking. I think the more you go through without smoking, the stronger you become

Well, I was a bit different. I was using gum & lozenges off & on, also patches I had some from a previous attempt. And I had cigarettes. Anywho, I smoked what I had, moved onto the gum & lozenges and used the couple of patches during the first week. Only what I had lasted 10 days instead of 7. Anyway, while I was using nicotine products, I had cravings. Once I ran out, and got serious, I didn't have near the problem I had before. I had some empty feeling, like I should be doing something, but it wasn't bad. And it got better over the first week. Now, I go hours and hours and don't think about smoking at all.
I smoked 2 packs a day for 28 years, so I was not a casual smoker.

wow penguin. I had a fit when they went to $4 a pack. I am almost embarrassed now.
Mercy - I am so lame, I keep track of how much I have saved to date on my calendar at work...it really motivates me.

Well, everyone is different. Now, I did read somewhere that stress makes the body metabolize nicotine faster, and that is why stressful situations make you crave a cigarette more.
I think maybe you are feeling a bit raw and a bit sensitive, but hang in there. I do believe it is the changes you are going through with stopping smoking.
big ((((hugs)))) to you unhooked.

mlk-
I read the Allen Carr book and thought it was very helpful also, and I am also on chantix.
do you think when you are ready to be on your own, you kind of start to forget the second dose? I think that seems to be a common thread of the people who have had success with Chantix.
