Welcome Dexter! That is a good birthday present to give yourself. Good luck in your quit, I think most of it depends on your mental attitude. If you expect a really rough go, you'll get one.
Like the others have said, I am using the quit program tools and I think they are helpful.

It's funny you should ask....
I made a list of "how things really were when I smoked" because as time goes by, I didn't want to forget, and romanticize smoking as we tend to do after time passes.
I mentally know that I was in labor for 36 hours, and asked the anesthesiologist to marry me after my epidural. But if you ask me today I'll say "Oh, it wasn't that bad"
Reading over my list really does help me...
Melissa

Hi & welcome! I am taking Chantix also, and am on my 5th week. I am 3 weeks nicotine free today, and found the Chantix to really help. A LOT. I am a 2-pack-a-day smoker also, for over 25 years.
I know you can do it, and what a great day to quit smoking on your birthday! At 2 packs a day, you can reward yourself with a nice vacation for your next birthday on money you used to smoke.

Hi, I am Melissa and this is my first post on this site. I am using chantix, and it is working really well. I had smoked 2 packs a day for about 28 years, and tried all the nicotine stuff, messed around with that for 2 years, and then got the Chantix.
No nicotine for over 2 weeks now! I even got really mad and stressed and didn't even think about smoking, except to think "wow! I am not in the car on the way to buy a pack!"
I am using the time on the Chantix to really work on the mental side of things, to find out about the mental side of things so when it is over, I won't have any problems.
This will work, I just know it.
Nice to meet ya'll!!
Melissa

Thanks everyone for the welcome! Before the chantix I felt like it was a constant battle. I know I can do this. I am very fortunate my insurance covers it, so it is $25/month.
Liz, congrats on being smoke free for 9 days! I could not make it that far by myself, so my hat is off to you! are you having trouble? Is it getting better over the nine days? If not you may talk to your dr and see if he thinks chantix would help. It has worked very well for me.
