Thanks to all for the words of encouragement and praise!
I made it through a very pleasant evening with dear friends. I went along with a friend and her church group and served meals to families who have children and babies in the ICU at Texas Children's Hospital.
My smoking obsessed thoughts were minimal while I was there. It is amazing how focusing on other things seems to kill the craves (even if it is just temporary). I also felt great about what I was doing to help others.
Happy Easter to all,
Boxerfan

Jean,
I've also read that nicotine affects blood sugar levels and they tend to drop quite a lot when there is no more nicotine in your system. I also read that drinking fruit juices during this time might be helpful. My husband and I bought some fresh orange juice. I'm not sure how much it helped, but I don't think it will hurt!
I've had extreme fatigue during the first week or so, but I've started feeling better in the last couple of days. Hang in there, it will get better!
Love your positive attitude,
Boxerfan

Welcome back Sparky!
Take it one day at a time....sometimes one minute at a time if that's what you need to do! Look forward to seeing you around.

Welcome Lou p lou and Congratulations on your decision.
You'll find lots of encouragement and support here. I am 38 and smoked for the last 20 years. My husband I are quitting together and also using Chantix. Come here often and read a lot. This kept me from smoking for the first few days of my quit. Be as prepared as possible and this will help ensure your success. Sugarfree candy and gum have been a great help to me so far. I'm cheering you on!

I do like smelling good. I even rewarded myself today with bath and bodyworks products.
What is really making me laugh is all of the closet smokers in this thread. I was one also....LOL
We should have a closet smoker club!

Thanks Shevie for sharing your experience. It is helpful to know that after the uncomfortable part of this journey, there is light. So far, it's been very difficult, but I think it's worth the pain involved in order to attain the of the positive benefits of quitting.
Congrats on your 694 days!

Welcome Seadust,
I have been taking the Chantix for the last 2+ weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't do that much research about the Chantix before I started taking it. I have had a few mild side effects (nausea which now seems better). Lots of people around here use all sorts of methods, so as you said, it is a personal decision. The way I see it is that it must be better than smoking. I've read lots of positive posts about people using Chantix here and how much it has helped them. This is my first quit, so I don't have any experience using methods other than Chantix. Whatever method you choose, there is a lot of support here. I know you can do it.
