Good for you SammiJo for hanging in there. Stressful times really seem to test our wills, but you passed the test with flying colors! How Did Ya Do It?

MaMaG, I am using Chantix and so far it has been working well for me. I've heard it said many times here that each person's quit is different. I think different methods work for different people. I'd say keep in close contact with your doctor and use whatever works well for you! SOUR candy

Hey guys, The raspberry sours are good, too. I would also recommend the green apple gum. It does have a slightly sour taste which I really enjoy. First really really tough time...

Hi LouPLou, Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time. My husband I are also both taking Chantix. Neither of us have had problems with taking it at night. Last night I took mine an hour before bedtime and had no problems, but very vivid dreams. I know everyone is different, so I thought I'd share my experience so far. I did, however, have problems sleeping during the first week to two of my quit. I think it was just my body adjusting to being smoke free. Try to look at the bright side of things Lou. Maybe you could pamper yourself this weekend. Take naps if you feel like it, watch a few movies, take a long bubble bath, or maybe go spend some time window shopping with a good friend. Just take care of yourself. Hang in there LouPLou. I'm just starting week 5 today, and I'm here to tell you I'm feeling SOOOO MUCH BETTER. I know you can do it, too. First really really tough time...

LouPLou, Just another tidbit of info. My husband visited his doctor yesterday. His doctor participated in the studies on Chantix before it was officially released. His doctor encouraged him to take the full six month regimen. The doctor said that patients are more successful when they take the medication for the full six months and he gave my hubby some statistical info on this. But of course, you should certainly go by your own doctor's recommendations! Glad you're feeling a little better, Boxerfan Boxerfan My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 536 Amount Saved: $104.4 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 15 Mins: 3 Seconds: 59

The Stress Myth

Thanks for sharing your experience Freemom. I was also a closet smoker (with the exception of smoking around my husband and very closest friends) and I totally agree with you about some of the stress being reduced. I also am enjoying many of the freedoms of not having to take all of that effort to hide my nasty habit. Now, I too can smell cigarettes from halfway across the room on a smoker. I must have been crazy to think that perfumes and lotion could cover that smell. It has been wonderful to leave this burden behind....plus, as you stated the health benefits are amazing! I do still have some craves related to stress. I have noticed that after a little argument with my hubby, I think about smoking. We are both quitting, and at times are a little grouchy. I have found myself thinking that a smoke would help relieve the stress because that is always what I relied on before. Well, I don't rely on smokes anymore.....and after the crave passes, I feel great about doing something so great for myself. I'm sure that this will get better over time also. I love being able to walk without coughing, my sinus problems have improved tremendously, and I'm just physically feeling better. I am also really enjoying my new sense of smell and taste. I guess my next hurdle will be taking off a few of the pounds that have arrived as a result of my new sense of taste. But for now, I can live with that.
