Well, I was disillusioned to think that I would just move right along in my quit without have a nightmare visit from the nicodemon. He tried to haunt me yesterday. It was the toughest day I've had since the first three days. I felt crave after crave after crave for about four hours with very little time in between them. I tried so many coping strategies, but it the craves continued for way too long. When they finally eased up, I was exhausted. It felt like a brick had been lifted off of my chest. Thanks to all of you who have shared your experiences because this helped me make it through the day.
These are a few of the words of wisdom that helped me yesterday:
NOPE
A cigarette won't make it better, it will make it worse.
I'm a nonsmoker
Think like Rocky Balboa
When will this stop...on Tuesday (I think I can make it until then!)
Deep breathing
Reading posts here
It will get better
Dont give up
You can do this
Rubbing my ears
During this time, I wanted to cry, scream and yell. It felt like temporary insanity. I came to a realization yesterday. I am ADDICTED to nicotine. It was an eye opening experience.
Once I regained some of my sanity, I was able to reflect on the situation and determine what I think caused this overwhelming surge of craves. I think I figured it out and I know what to do to prevent it in the future. I didn't take care of myself (didn't eat breakfast), and this started the downward spiral. It was also the first weekend since my quit that I didn't have lots of activities planned to keep me busy.
Thanks again for all of your advice and encouragement. They helped me make it through the day without smoking.

Thanks Jean,
Congratulations to you, also. That nicodemon was pretty tough yesterday, but WE were stronger! It's nice to know that others are feeling the same way and we are not alone in this struggle.

Hey Legend,
Don't do it. It's not worth it. Try some deep breathing exercises. Take in a deep breath, while counting to five, and breathe out, while counting to seven. Try this a few times and see if it helps. Do you have any gum or candy nearby? I was having a really tough time a few days ago and I munched ona package of sunflower seeds all evening. Neeed to get some more of those!
Hang in there and wait for some more replies,

Hello all,
Today is day two for me. I was smoker for the last 20 years. My husband and I are quitting together and supporting one another. We have been taking Chantix for the last 9 days. This is my first serious attempt to quit smoking and I have been browsing posts for the last two evenings. It has been very helpful to hear others thoughts and know that I am not alone in this journey. Yesterday was pretty tough with too many cravings to count. Today was a little better. I look forward to giving and receiving support.

Thanks for the welcome and support. It's been pretty tough so far, but I think there is a lot of support here. I think reading posts the last two evenings has helped get me this far. I'll be back often!

Welcome to SSC John and Sue. My husband and I also quit together just a little over a month ago. We are using Chantix as an aide.
This is an awesome place with lots of support of encouragement. Read and post as often as you can. The first week was the toughest for me (especially the first few days). I know it's tough, but you CAN do this. When you get time, check out the program tools on the left. It is easier to breathe now, isn't it! Just wait until your taste buds start working well again!!
