Smokefree at last!!

17 years ago 0 613 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Welcome, MissMolly -- Happy to have you along on this wonderful journey. I also quit with Chantix and today is my six month anniversary. I smoked 2 packs a day for 35 years, but here I am! I'm as shocked as anybody, but I FINALLY understood that I'm a drug addict, I read and read some more here at the SSC and really learned about nicotine addiction. I got so mad at the fact I was addicted, I haven't looked back. Tobacco companies will not get one more nickel from me! I recommend you find the anger and hold tight to it -- not at yourself, but at the addiction and the time and money and health wasted over all those years. Here's some hope for you, too regarding your "other half". My husband smoked and wasn't ready to quit when I did. That's ok, but I asked him to please limit his smoking around me. Lo and behold, a month ago, he got a prescription for Chantix and has now quit! So, you can be a good role model for him, just don't press him -- that never works. You know how stubborn men can be! Anyway, welcome aboard -- take care of yourself and keep us posted. Missmollygirl, Most quitters find they have a period of the day when cravings begin to surge. It can be related to your old routine. Did you smoke the most during this part of the day? If so, a change in routine may help. Substitue smoking for something else, a pleasurable activity perhaps? Kudos on rewarding yourself, you certainly deserve it! MissMolly, You are doing great and have a good jump on the quit. 7 days is something to be very proud of. If possible.... take the "other" factor out of your equation. What I mean is this: Make it all about you...and not what anyother smoker does and doesn't do. Create an indifferent attitude. You will need it in the many weeks to come. There will always be smokers around now and in the times to come. So you have to not care who smokes and who doesn't....it's all about "YOU". This is a great support group. Like family. Take time to notice everyones stats as you read. I found that so encouraging. I figured if they could get to that number of days not smoking...so could I!! ;) Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 77 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,553 Amount Saved: $344.19 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 1 Mins: 36 Seconds: 6

I know it's kind of bad to say, but I am glad I got this terrible cold because the last thing I want right now is a smoke. It also kept some of my smoking friends from stopping by, which from now on, they are to smoke outside. Now, if I could get the other half to do that, things would be perfect. He only smokes in the kitchen, so when he lights up, I walk away. And it's kind of funny, but I don't get any cravings from that. The only time I get them is in the mid to late afternoon and they are pretty brief. I'm positive I will succeed this time! I also have decided my first reward. New perfume because I like smelling good. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/31/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 172 Amount Saved: $28.8 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 23 Seconds: 1

This is my first time posting. Here is my short story. I started smoking at 17 years old because I thought I was cool. I quit ten years later by going cold turkey. It wasn't too bad because there was no temptation around me. Then, I started dating a smoker. After 4 years of no cigarettes, I gave in. After many failed attempts to quit, here I am almost 5 years later. I decided to see my doctor because I needed something to take the edge off, believe me, it's not easy when you have someone smoking in front of you all the time. She prescribed Chantix and it is working well for me. I haven't touched a cigarette in a week. Believe me, I thought about it, but as the week dragged on, the cravings were less and less. Today is Saturday, my 7th day. I am sick as a dog. It happens everytime I quit smoking, but this time it's well worth it.
