Calling Closet Smokers

Mercy, I went to bed last night and missed your last post. When I read it today, I laughed so much. That is one funny story and a very expensive smoke! Do you think about it every time you use the vacuum cleaner? Did you Litter Cigarettes?

I'm very ashamed to admit that I did throw butts out the window. Didn't want to use the ash tray. Mercy, what TX city do you live in? I'm in La Porte. Mercy, Thanks for the recognition. I'm very proud of my 15 days! I just keep taking it one day at a time, and the days are finally adding up. I'm starting to feel better and more energetic! My first accomplishment!!!

Hey Lou, That's great! It sounds like you're onthe right track. My husband and I are also taking Chantix. We did take the full seven day course before we quit smoking. On day 8, No more ciggies. During the last few days before I quit, it seemed like the smokes just weren't giving the same gratification. Silly me....i smoked more than i normally would those last couple of days. I've heard that lots of others started smoking less and tapered off. I think that's probably better. Maybe less withdrawal symptoms? I'm not sure. Keep us posted and start preparing for the day. Hang around here and you'll get lots of suggestions to help you prepare. I threw away all smoking articles in my house and car...ashtrays, etc. I bought lots of gum and sugar free candy to help make it through the first few days. nicotine information

Paul, I've read that it takes about 72 hours or 3 days. I'm sure that there is probably some variance in each person. Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking! Today is the day

Hi lighthouse, Welcome to SSC and congrats on your decision to stop smoking. As you can see, I am pretty new around here, but I do have some very recent experience with withdrawal symptoms while driving home. You see, the cigarettes on the way home from work were the most satisfying of my day. On may way to and from work that first day, I sucked on blow pop suckers and then chewed the gum. This helped me a lot. I've also recently tried drinking wather with a straw (a suggestion I had read here). Now, I am just chewing gum. Just hang in there....you can do it! Boxerfan P.S. I have also been inspired by something I read here. I don't remember who wrote it, but they said "not smoking won't kill you, but having a cigarette will". Woo Hoo!

Hi all, Well, what a journey this has been so far. I kind of think of it as a rebirth. I'm learning how to do everything without smoking! For the last 9 days, I've created a little smoke free zone around me. There are no smokes and ash trays at my house or in my car. I haven't physically been around that I know who smokes or has smokes. I've been a little worried that if someone who came to my house had smokes or if I knew someone who had some, I'd ask for one. Well, no more worries. Last night I celebrated Good Friday at a friend's house (dinner and watched The Passion of Christ). There were, as always, a few folks who immediately headed outside right after dinner. I chose to help with cleaning off the table and helping with dishes. During this time I told myself over and over "I'm a nonsmoker....I'm a nonsmoker". And the crave passed (I had some gum also). I felt great! I'll be facing a similar situation on Sunday at a family celebration, and I'm feeling very confident. Thanks to all of your tips and advice, I'm making it one day at a time, sometimes one minute at a time. I haven't posted much, but all that I've read is really helping me make this happen. You guys are inspiring me!! Have a great smoke free day, Boxerfan My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 187 Amount Saved: $36 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 21 Mins: 56 Seconds: 58
