Calling Closet Smokers

17 years ago 0 562 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Got my morning laugh with all the closet stories. I only was a closet smoker around my Dad who thought I finally quit after years of nagging me. Before visiting him I would chew a garlic clove to counteract the smell. I had the worst heartburn too. And here I was 60 yrs. old and afraid of my father. Dee Love your story!!I started smoking when I was 16.Thats when I started my 1,rst full time job right out of high school.I worked for the local telephone company and was outdoors all the time. All of the guys that I worked with were older farm boys who all smoked and decided to take me under their wing and teach me how ??? I never smoked at home probably because I was afraid my mother would brain me because my dad had died of cancer when I was 14.One night I was sitting at the dinner table with my mom and two younger brothers when my mom looked at me and said "well when did you decide to take up smoking" as an x smoker I had,nt fooled her at all !! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 70 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,260 Amount Saved: $700.00 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 0 Mins: 49 Seconds: 42

I have a great closet smoker story. My Son and his new wife moved to our town from another state. They stayed with us for awhile, until they could find a home. My son thought I had quit smoking years ago and I also thought he had quit. I was taking back roads to and from work so I could get in a few smokes before getting home. After about two weeks went by, my husband quietly ask me if my son or his wife smoked. I told him my son had quit and his new wife didn't smoke. He said that someone smoked because when he had gotten home that day he smelled it on someone.( At that time my husband knew I smoked) That night I quietly ask my son if he or his wife smoked. He got a funny look on his face and admitted that him and his new wife both smoked. I then told him I also still smoked. He then went to his wife and told her I ask about thier smoking. Of course she was caught off guard and said " OH NO, DID SHE SMELL IT ON ME?" He then told her we had all been hiding it from each other and all living in the same house. The funniest part is before we all knew about each other I would sneak out and smoke one in the back yard after every one went to bed. They were also doing the same thing!!!!! Can you imagine the look on our faces if we had met each other out there. :8o: Can't believe it did'nt happen. We still laugh about it. They are the only two left in the family that smoke. All the rest of the family has always been smoke free and still don't know any of us smoked. thinking again, Just a quick thought. It occured to me how important our roll is with our own children. (you guys who have young ones especially.) I see all these commercials telling parents to talk to their kids early about smoking. Reading how much we feared and/or respected our parents to hide our smoking even as grown adults (one of you was 40!!!) shows the impact we can have on our children. Just a thought. Wished my parents were more forceful about it... maybe I wouldn't have almost fallen off a ship..... bought a vacumn cleaner I didn't need...and burned my dress clear through to my underpants! (in that last story.) The things we learn late in life. mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 101 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,029 Amount Saved: $451.47 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 3 Mins: 51 Seconds: 32

You asked for it: Back in the late 80's I sang with a band. Nothing fancy...but a real good country club/wedding type band. It was a classy band. The guys were music teachers. They wore black tuxes and I had a pretty black dress. (oops...giving my age away a bit. Yes.... this is before the DJ era.) Now picture this. I would go to the band jobs always taking the back routes so I could smoke along the way. Here I am.... this Italian looking hottie...in a beautiful black belted dress...black high heels on great looking legs. (sigh...... that was the day!!) I threw my third wolfed down cigarette out the window as I was only 10 minutes from the country club. I did my usual roll down all four car windows so the forceful catogory 4 hurricane breeze would air me out!! After a minute or two I rolled up the windows and I felt a painful bee sting on my upper thighs. Actually it felt more like a snake bite. The road had become full of traffic and I kept glancing down at my lap. Not only did my legs sting...but I smelled melted plastic. You got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........I was burning up. The butt must have flown back at me in the car and caught my dress on fire... and it...along with me was smoldering. Now... I'm in the middle lane of traffic swerving all over the road...with cars honging on either side of me as I try to extinguish myself. I manage to make a severe right into a parking lot and pull over to a place away from other parked cars to survey the situation. Not good....not good at all. My situation was grim indeed. I had to be at this job in 20 minutes and I'm still 10 minutes away. I have a dress that is melted right threw to my pantyhose!! My adrenaline was still on overdrive from the shock of the situation... and believe it or not..... I was dying for another cigarette!!!!! I gazed up and down the road for some idea... and there... not too far down the road was a clothing discount store. No way could I buy a dress.... put it on... and get to the job on time. At that point...being on time was the least of my problems. The mission was to get cloths on my body ....quick!!! I fly to the store and get out of my car and find my dress is litterally melted above thigh level. I hide my thighs by holding my purse in front of my legs and
